Skin Removal Surgery

Recommended Posts

At what time is the right time for skin removal? I've lost 84 lbs and have sagging skin on my arms and legs ( feels like cottage cheese) sorry-

I want to lose another 70 lbs. How do I know when its time and do they do arms, legs and stomach all at the same time or do you have to have several different skin removal surgeries?

Really a question for the surgeon but in my experience I had tummy and boobs at the same time. I have inquired about arms and legs too with a Costa Rican surgeon and he did say that he could do both at the same time.

I work with plastic surgeons, and they all have said they want you to be a goal for about 1 year before you have surgery. this gives your skin time to shrink on it's own and be at a stopping point. and it depends on how much skin is being removed as to how many procedures can be done at one time. don't want it to be to much trauma or shock on the body

Is it one year after the wls or another year once you reach goal?

I asked my doc that last week in my pre-surgery appt. He said about 2 years- I should be at my goal about 1 year, and with exercise, etc, it would be about a year after that he said I should wait.

@changing b4 your eyes : it is one year after reaching and stabilizing your optimum weight.

So it can be at least two years post-op.

one year after reaching your goal weight... even though you may not be losing weight, your skin is still shrinking to adjust to your new body.

My surgeon- who seems to be a tad more strict-said that he wouldn't recommend it until we're at goal for 2 years.

Allow your skin up to 2 years to bounce back! Our poor skin, just give it a chance to catch up! Our skins always been good to us, I'd say give it some time! :)

I can tell ya now...my skin isn't going to shrink back...it never had a back to go to. I've always been overweight. This sag isn't going to "shape up" till surgery makes it go away. lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
