And you are correct about the support part..I'm not finding much yet here close to home..the people I chose to tell about it are still pretty negative. Hell' date=' I don't want to put a sign up in the yard, you know? Sure would be nice if they would just be on board..chipping away, chipping away...a little bit each day! LOL[/quote']

The negativity was getting to me too. I just keep reminding myself that it mostly stems from lack of knowledge and concern. I am smart and resourceful. I wouldn't make this leap if I didn't look first! Ya know?

Oh you lucky duck! I started out with Alvarez, but have since changed my mind, mostly due to my impatience with waiting to save up the cash...if I had the extra dough, I'd already have my appt made and ready to fly over to see him! Best of luck, I know you'll do well!

Thank you, best of luck to you too!! I was originally supposed to have mine October 5th but had to move my date due to medical issues. I've been saving for this since last December

Dr. Alvarez has some FB pages..be sure and join up, I've been chatting it up with a lot of folks on there, reading about their experiences. I had hoped to be an "official Dr. Alvarez" sleeved member...don't think I can raise the funds in the time I have allowed myself :(

I've been following on twitter and you tube.... when are you thinking of having your surgery? Susan, his coordinator is really good at working with you. I've heard so many good things about him... he's really good about answering my emails and tweets too

I was shooting for March of next year thinking with my savings and possibly tax return I could have at least half of Dr. A's fee and by then be in a better position credit wise to apply for a loan for the remainder. I've since had enough doubts that I can make that a reality that I've started looking at lower priced surgeries, farther from home (which means a longer plane ride). That's still a few months away though...and I've emailed Susan a lot prior to going off tangent with cheaper surgeons, and you're right, she's been great! I've sent a few emails to another coordinator about Dr. Alejandro Lopez, but haven't been able to find very many reviews about him...who knows, as fickle as I am, I could change my mind again on who I go with. The only thing I wont change my mind on is the decision to DO IT! :)

I went to my PCP yesterday for some medical professional feedback. He is supportive. He is going to check the booking agency I'm using and their surgeries. He said he will definitely treat me post op and was surprised asked. I explained I've read a few patients saying their PCP refused care if they went out of the country for surgery. Also he gave me a flu shot, tetanus shot, and referred me for the Hep A series b4 I leave the country for medical treatment. What a great doc!

I should say... I talked with my PCP earlier this month about follow up. He agreed to, but only after saying he was neither a supporter of WLS or an opponent. He asked me what I was going to do with all the loose skin...I told him I'd just "tuck it in" :)

Lol!

I do plan to nip and tuck it surgically once I hit my goal range.

Hey AmandaRae, how are things going for you?

I am super excited right now, just found out I can use my flexible spending account money for my surgery!! This means I can have my surgery right after the first of the year. I know you won't be heading over until March :( I was looking forward to having an Ohio sleeve buddy, maybe I can convince my daughter to tag along. Let's keep in touch?? Maybe we could meet up sometime and share our experiences. ^_^

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
