Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Recommended Posts

I see my whole team Thursday....surgeon, NUT, and the exercise physiologist.....my program requires you see each every 3 months for 2 years. I am most interested in seeing NUT as feel like her recommendations are too vague, plus not able to take the BA Vitamins without puking.

This site is so great for information and support...thank you all for being there.

forme im sorry you feel this way. it will past dear i promise. i feel the same way why eat if i cant enjoy it right. but there is a positive side to this. you can not over eat like you use to. i had a burger and fries and it was a waste of money because i could only eat less than half and a few fries but on the brighter side i did no damage. if that makes sense

I found the group. Thank you so much!!

BTW... You look fabulous!!!

I have my six week check up today. I hope to get cleared so I can start some weight lifting. I've slowly lost 25 pounds since surgery on the 12.

I feel great and have had no problems. When I read all the post where so many are struggling to keep down 2-3 bites of food I don't know if I should be happy with my currant status or worried that things are going down too easily. I generally eat about 600 -700 cals a day. Trying to increase to 800 per my NUT.

I guess I have no complaints other than wishing I'd drop more weight ????

I have those days too. Unfortunately. Went to bed in tears last night and had a long discussion with my husband this morning about how after 6 weeks I am still pretty much regretting the surgery. My weight loss is at a standstill. Everything that tasted good pre-sleeve makes me want to puke now. And I am so beyond sick of cheese, cottage cheese, lunch meat, and eggs that I could scream. Tried a Subway salad tonight and nope, tummy is not real happy with me. Ugh. I am hungry all the time it seems. I can't seem to eat 3 meals a day and 2 Snacks. Just seem to graze all day because I am so hungry all day. I think it is complete BS that they cut out the part if the stomach that secretes Ghrelin. Don't believe it for a minute. I think I really need to attend a support group meeting but unfortunately the one at the hospital I had the surgery is too far away and is only once a month. Maybe that is what you need too? Hang in there. I think the emotional/psychological journey is even tougher than the physical one.

MOMto 3 I soooo am right there with you. At this point I have been so hungry I eat whatever I can get down even if it is on my DO NOT EAT list. I hate the mental part of this whole thing too. I am soo over yogurt and cottage cheese. I do not exercise. I do not get all my Water in and I do not get all my Protein in.. I am totally failing this thing!! HELP!

greenfamily, we have very similar stats and experiences. I was sleeved on the 14th and have lost 25 since surgery and 33 overall. I also am getting in aroun 700 calories a day and doing pretty good on my Protein and Water. I have not had the issues with food going down, just an uncomfortable feeling if I go to fast or eat too much! But, right now everything is going great! My NUT told me that 25 lbs in the 6 weeks was right on track and I don't want it coming off too fast and to just keep tracking everything!

So glad to have someone in the same boat with me :))

Saw my Dr. Today. He said I am right on track and should have no worries. I've been cleared for full exercise and looking forward to it. I agree with you about loosing slowly may be a good thing.

I'm so fortunate! I don't have a problem getting in 65+ gr Protein, 70 oz fluids, anywhere from 30-80 gr carbs (my NUT isn't really concerned with carbs - thank goodness!), maybe 10-15 gr fat/day and around 700 calories.

I've lost about 37 pounds since I started the 2-week pre-surgery diet so I'm OK (not thrilled, but OK) with that.

My big problem is exercise. I just can't seem to stay motivated to do anything on a regular basis. I was walking everyday at work - 20 mins twice a day - but I've gotten busier so that's not happening regularly.

I WANT to start some weight training, but feel intimidated about going to a gym. It's something I know absolutely nothing about, I'm way out of my comfort zone - and I have NO CLUE what one wears to the gym when one is still very "plump." Heck, the last time I went to a gym, I did aerobics and wore a leotard and leggings! (quit laughing!!!).

I'm doing OK losing now, but I know the loss will slow down if I don't up the exercise.

What motivates you to exercise???

I am soooo glad I am a part if this support group. It helps to know that you are not the only one going through something. I am doing much better today. It was just a lot of stuff at one time and I broke but I am whole again. Thanks so mug for all the encouraging words. I have no regrets. I may just have to accept that I will be full after thre bites of something and will have to do Protein shakes/powders to get enough. I exercises everyday. I am almost to a job now. I have incorporated weight/toning into my routine. What motivates me is j have come to far not to do what is needed. Also when it comes to eating I think j am a little nervous about eating fats/carbs etc. this too will pass :)

For Me - have you tried the clear Protein ready-to-drinks? I can't face a shake, but don't mind these at all. I've tried Isopure Zero Carb but prefer Cytosport's whey isolate Protein Drink (I get them at Vitamin Shoppe - if you don't have one nearby, you can order on-line). Comes in Tropical, Watermelon & Tangerine. 130 calories/bottle, 32 gr protein, 1 carb. I usually pour 1/2 into an empty bottle and fill both bottles the rest of the way with ice & Water. I'll drink 1 "mixed bottle" at work in the mornings and then if I know I'll need the protein, I'll drink the other "mixed bottle" when I get home. Most days now I just drink 1. These might not give you the full feeling that the shakes give you.

You will be able to tolerate more and more food (up to a point). Just give yourself time. I can easily eat a 5.3 or 6 oz container of yogurt but 2 oz of chicken and 1/4 C of cooked spinach fills me up. I also do MUCH better when I eat very slowly. It's a learned skill - and annoying really - but it works!

You've been through a lifechanging surgery - it's OK to have those scary, WTH did I do days. They'll be fewer and fewer as time goes on.

OMG! I just experienced a tiny slice of heaven. I haven't been cooking much for the family (gee I wonder why) but decided to use up some ground beef so made meatloaf and mashed potatoes and peas. I took about 1/2 the amount I usually do, ate the meat first, then the peas and taters. Finished the meat but not the potatoes or peas. I am queen of wasted food these days it seems. Anyway, It tasted so damn good! Something different and something homemade. I am going to get myself some milk here in a bit too. Yum!!! I am gonna go to bed a happy girl tonight.

Another day of trying new things...for Breakfast I had one waffle with 1/2 banana sliced on top of it and a little sugar free Syrup. So nice to have something "new". For lunch just now I toasted 1/2 of a whole wheat bagel thin, put a little light mayo on it and some homemade chicken salad (chicken, light mayo, celery, onion, and chopped up red grapes). Once again...something "new". So far so good. Just wish I wasn't so tired today....

newgrand....yeah, having the same thing... hunger not as much. In fact so not as much that I totally forget to eat lunch quite often. I think this week I'm going to make some pulled pork for BBQ sandwiches, and some mulagatawny stew/soup. The leaves are turning, the air is crisp and it is time to pull out the crock pot!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
