All The Single Ladies...

Recommended Posts

So, I've been reading about everyone and wanting to lose weight and be there for their spouses/kids/grandkids. Now I want to hear from the single ladies (men). How have you been now that you've lost (losing) weight? Do you have dating worthy confidence now? Have you been on dates? Have you discussed the surgery? How have you handled going out to dinner? I want all the juicy details. ^_^

Personally, the depression looms as I turn 35 in a couple days and I'm alone (no kids). I haven't been on a date in maybe 5 years. This is so embarrasing. I look forward to having the confidence to go back online.

Omgoodness, what a great topic!! I am a pre-op single lady so don't have anything to share except looking forward to feeling good again, building confidence and (gulp) getting back out there! Very fun thread and interested in the responses you get. Thanks for posting!!

Well I am married, however I did go out with my girlfriends and I practically had to fight the guys off. I did tell my hubby he was gonna have to buy me a bigger diamond ring to scare off potential suitors. The sex is a lot better. My legs can bend like I never thought, and it doesn't hurt :) when I we go out for dinner dates it's great, I feel so sexy and confidant, I love getting all dressed. I feel like I'm slowly but surely becoming eye candy...what maybe one day I'll be that trophy wife that I always knew I could be.

I met the love of my life post sleeve (2-3 months post-op, 50 pounds down) Definately made a big difference in my confidence. I could be myself. I think you will find dating is much easier post sleeve-- confidence makes a big difference!

Great topic shellbll125! And I have you beat by 10 years, so I win the right to be depressed lol!! But seriously, I am almost 3 weeks out - sleeved on 8/28, and I'm down 24 lbs...not enough to make a huge difference yet, but I feel more confident. I feel like I am ready to discover the real me. And yeah, have a few...OK, a LOT if dates lol, but I feel like I will choowe much better because I don't "have" to settle.

I'm 33 not married, no kids also. I totally understand what you mean about depressing and embarrassing. I'm not back on the dating scene yet, but here's to believing! We have to remember that we are worthy of love. :)

I am so much more confident, and I'm only one month post op. I went to the bar last weekend and felt so different from a year ago when I was there weighing 270+lbs. I had more guys trying to dance with me, I had less trouble squeezing in busy lines and I didn't sweat nearly as much when I was dancing. I haven't started dating yet though! I'm just not at the point where I want to.

Single...42..sleeved... And down roughly 80 lbs. Since 6/29/12.. I met a guy I've been dating for about 6 weeks now... He knows about my surgery... Picks on me when i burp after eating... Shares his dinner with me... And the biggest concern he has.. Am i going to stop seeing him after I've lost more weight... Its odd to be on this end of that feeling i think??? it seems like each jean size i lose.. The more confident i am...

I had a plan to start online dating as soon as I hit 150. I made a profile about 2 weeks ago, have been messaging guys on the site. The weight loss also gave me the confidence to respond to a personal ad on a local message board. We've been emailing and texting. I have a date to meet him for coffee on Monday.

Oh I can't wait to get back on the dating scene again !!!! My surgery is coming up soon and being 23 and obese has dropped my confidence level really low. I know after I get down to my goal weight I'm going to let out my inner tigress!!!!

Hahahaha I keep saying this same type of thing to my husband... He always has called me his trophy wife... And I kind of dislike that phrase, but now that I am closer to my surgery date I keep joking to him that soon he really will have a trophy wife LOL

Luckily he still says "I already have one"

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
