Pre-Op Liquid Diet And International Travel

Recommended Posts

i have to travel internationally during the pre-op liquid diet phase. do the liquid diet Protein Shakes come in powder form that can be mixed in Water? Packets that contain powders that are mixed with water can easily go through the security checks at airport. But if they are literally cans of Protein shakes, they will have to go into my checked baggage. So here is the question: is it possible to find protein shakes for the pre-op liquid diet that are packets of powder that is mixed with water?

Sure they do! Can mix w milk ( I use skim plus...extra 11 g Protein and + calcium) as per my nut!! I just ordered Syntrax on Amazon ( Cookies n cream is BANGIN and 23g Protein per scoop) but u can get sample packs of different flavors! I tried Bariatric fusion not so bad but not my #1 mixed w water! I was told aty last nut visit that u can go to Vitamin shops and look for protein shakes! Just make sure u 1. Ask for help so u don't get the ones made for body builders.... They usually have an assortment for bariatric surgery! 2. Main ingredient is whey isolate!!!! More pure protein!!

I bring ready to drink shakes with me on the plane (international and domestic). I ask the flight attendant for ice. It is so much easier than trying to deal with powder on the plane.

You are allowed to bring liquids as long as it is a medical necessity, and it is declared to the TSA. You usually have to go through additional screening procedures. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/editorial_1059.shtm

Thanks so much for the tips and the link to TSA site. Have you had any difficulty bringing ready-to-drink shakes going through non-US security? I travel a lot to Asia and Europe. Have you experience any difficulties there?

I bring Protein Powder from my tubs at home dumped into big ziplocks. I thought I'd have problems bringing in my carry on, but have traveled all over the world with it and no problems.

As far as I know everyone will allow liquid shakes as a medical necessity. The challenge in Asia could be the language barrier. The big airports in China are easy, but Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam might be challenging places to explain a liquid diet.

I didn't travel on the Pre-op diet, but I have got off shakes almost entirely starting a 7 weeks post-op because of travel. There are lots of other great Protein sources that don't require you to scrounge for shake-making supplies. .

Any chance your doctor might let you use good Protein Bars or even beef Jerky for the Pre-op diet? You can get massive Protein with less than 1000 calories using those, and it is far easier to travel with them. The Quest bars are nutritionally very good and edible.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
