Pre-Op Liquid Diet In A Business Meeting? Hmmmmm

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have a question.....or more so a scenario that I am going to encounter in a few weeks and wondering how to handle it....

I have an all day business meeting, during which the higher ups will be evaluating me for my next promotion. They Always serve a huge lunch spread during these meetings as they tend to last 7-9 hours.

I am going to be on Day 3 of my pre-op Clear liquids. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone have any ideas for how to skirt the questions of why am I not eating anything? Keep in mind they are truly judging your every move. Do I say I'm having a surgerical procedure and need to be on Clear Liquids?

Or do I just suck it up, serve myself some salad (I can at least be good if I'm going to eat) and then right back on the clear liquids?

Dr. Alvarez wants me to do a 14 clear liquid diet prior to my 10/8 surgery....technically my BMI calls for 7 or 14 days...(I'm a 41.4, so 41 calls for 7 day, 42 calls for 14)....should I just start it the day after the meeting, so I don't run the risk of being low on energy and hunger crazy when I am trying my hardest to impress these people for my promotion? That would still give me 10 days on clear liquids pre-op.

Truly appreciate any/all suggestions.....

I had the same thing happen!! I had my morning shake before the meeting. I took my Blender Bottle with me and got some skim milk for my lunch...and they had Soup...so I also had the broth off of it and no one noticed that I didn't eat a ton.

Good luck...it was just hard to be around all that food....because I wanted to eat the entire spread!

I've been thinking about the same thing. I travel locally to my client's offices and we frequently have lunch meetings. I hoping for Soup but as a last resort, just maybe eating a little salad with perhaps a slice of turkey - no carbs and keep it very lean. No Salad Dressing. I was also concerned about something I heard about being on the pre-op diet...um.. to be careful about bathroom breaks. Liquids go in, Liquids come out. Don't wait until the last minute and never (i'm sorry if this is tmi) trust a fart. I am taking this advice to heart because the last thing I want is an issue when I'm in with clients.

AZ1369... I would eat the salad or have some Soup, then you don't have to do any explaining, especially if you are only on day 3. If your really concerned I would call your surgeons office and explain you dilemma.

Nicksmom.... Fortunately I didn't experience the liquid in liquid out on the pre-op diet, though I understand your concern.

If it was me I would call your surgeon's office and explain the situation. Being that it is day 3 of a 14 day diet, I would think you could behave yourself with some Soup, clean salad (meaning no cheese, croutons, ranch, etc) but just confirm to be sure. You wouldn't want to be overlooked for a promotion b/c it was assumed you were picky or it was uncomfortable to others.

Just my 2 cents...

Thank you everyone. I'm off Friday, so I will talk to Dr. Alvarez's office and let them know the situation. I would prefer to just start the following day and do 10 days clear liquid. Kinda worried how my stomach might feel if I end up eating during the meeting after 2 days of clear liquids......definitely not the place you want to suddenly start to not feel well :o

I was sleeved by Dr. Alvarez and did a 14 day preop liquid diet. I messed up a few times and I told him, he told me to stick to the plan because I don't want to ruin my surgery and it not happen. I stuck to it strictly after he said that. I Honestly would only do liquids and listen to Dr. A, it's hard but u can do it!

Hey sweetsusie! How are you feeling? After you talked to him, how many solid days did you stick strict to it?

I have your same bmi and my doc is only making me do the 7 day liquid. I have also heard of others who can actually have a protien and veggie at dinner during the entire pre-op. I wonder why there are so many different pre-op diets if they are all doing the same thing! I have a work dinner on the 2nd night of my pre-op and am thinking of drinking my protien shake before I go and then just picking at a chicken breast during the dinner to be social and not draw attention to myself.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
