So here I am in my 5th month of the 6 month insurance required supervised diet. I haven't lost a pound. I have to admit that I really haven't tried. Don't get me wrong, once my motivation kicks in, I can lose on my own. I lost 75 pounds 2 years ago but have gained it all back. I am not pigging out either. I just figured that my surgery will come soon enough and from then on my eating will drastically change. I have always exercised religiously, but lately, with arthritis in both knees, I hurt too much to even walk. Am I the only one that is lacking motivation right now?

The same thing happened tome when I was on the 6 mos diet, I didn't loose weight. I had surgery July 10 and am down 35 lbs and feeling great. Hang in there.

When I was on my six month diet I lost a grand total of 12 pounds. The first month, my NUT seemed a little annoyed that I had only lost three pounds in a month's time. But at the end of the six months she admitted to me that she was thrilled that I took it more seriously than most...LOL! I don't know about you, but I was really upset that I had to go through that in the first place. I had lost and then regained on more diets than I can even count. That was the whole reason I was going for the surgery in the first place. Obviously eat less and exercise more were not working for me. I know that insurance companies need to make sure you are truely committed to a change in lifestyle, but I seriously doubt that there are too many people that just wake up and suddenly notice they are fat and immediately run to surgery. Okay, my rant is over. I enjoyed a little good bye tour wtih food during the two months between my last NUT visit and my pre-op diet while waiting for insurance approval. I gained two pounds and then got really serious for my two week pre-op. I lost 15 and was fully ready for surgery. As predicted, I find it much easier and am much more motivated to stick with the plan now that I am sleeved!

That's very common, I went through the exact same thing.

Going through that myself - I'm almost done with the second month of my 6 month supervised diet. Also, very annoyed at it being needed - Like I woke up yesterday fat... really? ive been dieting in one way or another for 20 years... and I'm 32.

I didn't gain but didn't lose at my first appointment - she wasnt mad but she said "oh well, at least you didn't gain." lol. I want to get serious but I'm also scared of "what if i lose too much and get below 40 BMI?" I'm about a 41.5 with no co-morbs and don't want to get too low and get denied...

Didn't experience this myself (the benefits of self-pay) but wanted to chime in and say that you're not alone. I've seen this posted before.

I completely agree with actingnurse - honestly, why on earth would yet another diet make the big difference and somehow prove that cutting out 85% of your stomach is going to be successful? I half think they do it simply to get people to drop out and not have the surgery!

The good things you can do in this time (and I wouldn't fret too much about losing, only be careful not to gain) are work on some of those emotional things that have helped us get/remain overweight. Try to pay attention to your eating habits and avoid overeating. This is something you'll have to do at some point so why not start now? And if you're at least tracking your calories, you're building a good habit that will help you achieve success post op.

Good luck. If 1,200 calorie diets and extra exercise worked for everyone, none of us would have surgery. We'd be sporting skinny bods from our first round of Weight Watchers!

I know exactly what your talking about. They tell us to lose during the supervised diet but not to lose too much. What is too much? I wouldn't even be on the website if I could do it on my own right?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
