Hey sleevers!

Had my surgery on Monday and my recovery is going well. The only problem is that I keep burping whenever I drink anything. Is that normal? Am I drinking too fast? Too slow? It doesn't hurt to burp or anything, it's just a little annoying.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I gurgle.. I'm not even sure that's a word now, ahhhh my brain was in my stomache -__- but that's a different thread all together Hehe

But yes the noises are annoying to say the least :)

Yes, completely normal. I still burp sometimes but most of the time it is a gurgle, whether I am drinking or eating.

I have the same problem and I am on week 3 now, I asked my surgeon, and he said to drink slower and that should calm it a bit. He described it as for the liquid you are putting in, air in ur stomach is being displaced, and therefore a burp will occur. I guess some of us are just lucky to have more air and what not than others. :|

I do find that when I sip slower it does help a bit, but as the day goes on so do the burps....

Good luck to you =)

I was told it's because of all the air they pumped in from surgery plus we might be drinking too fast so I take a sip and slowly let it go down... It will get better I'm post op 2 days and I havent burped as much but I do get lil chest pains ... Have any of u had that??

Jess, haven't had any chest pains. Is it from you incisions? I do get some pains when sitting up due to the incisions.

I don't think so... Maybe I'm just drinking too fast , I might just call my doctor to play it safe.

I was sleeved on Tuesday and swear I've burped with every sip, no matter how small the sip or how slow I take it. Figured it was from the gas in my abdomen. Hoping it goes away or at least doesn't happen all the time when I go back to work!

I was sleeved Monday and I have had the exact same experience. My fear is that it wont stop. My theory behind this is that everytime we eat or drink we take in a little air but it's more noticable because the size of our stomachs are so small now. When they were normal size our stomachs had the room to allow for some air without needing to come up immediately, now they dont. Right now the burping is painful. My only comfort is knowing it will stop hurting as the stomach heals, but I am so saddened at this realization that I will burp with every bite or drink for the rest of my life. :( If anyone knows this to be different, please tell me so.

I am 4 1/2 weeks out and also have issue with burping. If not burping then I have gurgling feeling. Really hoping this resolves

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
