What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"

Your right it isn't a joke. We all have been in more awkward, embarrassing, impossible moments but that is or will soon be behind us. Congratulations to those that have already done it and for us who are waiting to do it its just the beginning.

Going into a Chinese restaurant and having the skinny moron waiter ask me, "Why are you so fat?" (Yeah, I walked out.)

You probably handled it much better than I could have, I think I'd be asking, "why are you such a dumb (bleep)!" At least weight is something you can fix, ignorance not so much. Good Luck.

I went to eat a Casino Buffet, my parents had invited me, I had never been there before. I am enjoying my food when I notice there was a couple of guys trying to take a picture of me. I stopped eating, I let my parents finish eating and when I got to the car I cried. The thing is I do not even eat a lot, I have health issues that prevent me from working out and I have made poor choices in my food. I have not been to any buffet since and that is also when I started to look into weight loss surgery. People are so mean and just don't understand because they have never walked in our shoes. Nobody wakes up one day and says I want to be obese, there is so many more issues that they would never understand unless they have gone through it.

U are absolutely right! People are really mean and I'm so sorry that happened of you! I always feel like when I go for a second plate at a buffet people are smirking or thinking she really doesn't need that!! No one does understand that most people are obese because of health issue, or just plan of generics! It's really pathetic how people can judge when they don't even know you!! Good luck with your journey!!!

People who never have been seriously overweight can never understand what it's like. To them, losing 3 pounds is just a matter of willpower and skipping lunch, and so they look at me and think that I am just a) lazy, B) a slob, or c) overindulgent.

The thing is - and I mean this - so many of the overweight people I know have more willpower than anyone else. They have been on strict diets, monitoring everything they eat or even consider eating, feel guilty if they do eat a bit more, and then beat themselves up continually. We are never happy with ourselves, and we are the reason the diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry.

But we have been set up to fail.

Diets don't work. We can all agree on that.

We are probably the people who would have survived famines a couple of hundred years ago. Our DNA is programmed to make us survivors. Those skinny folks wouldn't have lasted a week. Starvation is no longer that much of a problem for many of us, but our bodies haven't gotten the update yet, and so we keep socking away that fat reserve.

So I look at it like this: I'm a survivor from a long line of survivors, and I'm proud of that. But now that I do not have to worry about the same things my ancestors did, I can get healthy using new technology. Life is good.

If those mean S.O.Bs. motivated you, maybe seeing them take that picture was your bariatric angel's way of getting you to do something (bariatric surgery) that you should have done. I know that sounds a bit crazy, but if that is what you needed to motivate you, then in the long run that experience wasn't all bad. Remember it when you are tempted to go off your diet or sneak something you know you should not have. Use that memory as a tool to propel you to looking great and feeling sensational. F#(# the b@$+@&*$.

When I was told by my father that my husband would leave me because of how fat I was, even though we met when I was at my highest weight.

What "sealed the deal" for me was this summer...my girls & I took a plane to FL for a 3 wk visit to my mom's. As I sat in our first plane, I went to buckle the seatbelt..it wouldn't buckle. I began to sweat with nervousness & panic. I had always been able to buckle my airplane belt any other time I flew. Granted, this was my first flight in close to ten years, but my God! Seriously?!? I started out w/ denial... I fumbled around, sure I was doing something wrong! Next, came anger...now why in the hell would they make these belts so small??? Finally, I got very nervous. At this moment, I had never heard of a belt extender, so in my mind I thought if the flight attendant noticed, I would either be forced to purchase an additional ticket, or be forced off the plane.. Leaving my girls standing there mortified. I was NOT going to let that happen, so I did whatever I could to make it appear as though my belt was latched. I put both sides on my lap, and then covered my lap w/ my purse. Each time an attendant walked by to do a seatbelt check, I went through the panicking all over again. It was the single most shameful moment of my life. I vowed that I would have the surgery no matter what the cost.

I will be having surgery later this winter.

Last year I had an infection after Gall Bladder removal. The results from the infection showed that my body makes a bacteria that basically makes me fat.

I made the decision to have the Sleeve and not waste any more of my quality of life.

I was in denial...but had a rwaluty check when I looked at my reflection in a shop window...what I saw was a hunched over fat blob..no make up..baggy clothes...unkempt hair..leaning on a walking stick. Thats not me !! I keot saying...until I looked closer..I didnt recognise myself..I had completely Lost my self worth...I wasnt Living..just exsisting ...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
