I lost 8 pounds on mine. Of course your doctor will want you to lose as much weight as possible prior to surgery but I think the primary goal of the pre-op liquid diet is to reduce liver size so the surgeon can get around it more easily during surgery.

Mine was for one week. I lost 9lbs. I was on mushy foods and full liquids for the first four days. The last 3 days were Clear Liquids. My starting weight was 279. Being heavier, I expected to lose a little faster.

Mine was 2 weeks, I lost 15 pounds. Day 1-3 felt like I was going through drug withdrawal. One of the earlier days, I weighed myself, went to pee, then weighed myself again out of curiosity and I was 4 pounds lighter. I had to double check it! Sigh. lol. I'll take my losses where I can get them though.

Good luck!!

Just stick with the plan and don't worry about the number on the scale. (I know that is much easier said than done!) The most important thing is sticking with the plan. Also, you may want to consider a higher Protein, lower carb/ lower sugar option though. Slim Fast Protein has 7 grams of protein, 13 grams of carbs and 6 grams of sugar. Ideally you should have a Protein Powder that has 20 grams of Protein, <5 grams of sugar and <5 grams of carbs. That may help. Your grocery store may have something that fits the bill, (ours carries one) If not, hit your local GNC, Vitamin World, Vitamin Shoppe or other nutrition store to find one since you do not have time to order online right now. If you can get something small, then do it because your tastes might change after surgery. In prep for post surgery, go online and order some samples of protein powders. Chike, Unjury, nectar all have sample packs of their flavors. (all have the right combo of protein and carbs) If you are trying something else, make sure you read the label on the back because all protein powders are not created equal.

Thanks! I think there are better Protein Shakes out there too but they have me drinking 5 slimfast shakes a day which makes my protein total! But I'll get to choose my shakes after surgery.

Well that's good then. You are following your doctor's orders. The reason I say not to worry about the scale is that right now you are mainly doing the pre-op to shrink your liver for a safe and easier surgery. I know it would be a great side benefit to lose a bunch of weight during this stage, but even if you don't lose a lot pre-surgey you will definitely loose it at some point. Eventually your body is going to register the reduced calories during pre-op diet and release the Water you are retaining and also start burning fat. I used to join Weight Watchers with a friend and be so frustrated at the first two weigh ins where my friend would lose 6 lbs and I would lose one if I was lucky! Then eventually I would start to lose too. Hang in there! Good luck with your surgery!

I totally sucked during my pre-op, I did not lose any weight, I have PCOS which slows my metabolism down crazy, I also only did shakes during the day and ate a meal at night, now I'm sooo close and definitely only doing liquids today but dreading my mistakes ):

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
