Will Insurance Ever Waive The 4 Month Pre-Surgery Diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if any of you have heard of an insurance waiving the pre-surgery 4 month supervised diet?

I've been doing Weight Watchers online for months and was wondering if insurance would possibly count that as a valid attempt. I had also lost 160lbs 10 years ago ( no surgery -- just low carb) but I have gained 60lbs back and I'm just devastated. My first appointment with my surgeon ( Dr. Lavin) is next week. The office has already verified my insurance and I am covered at a 100%. Thanks for any insight!

I think it depends on the insurance companies. I didn't have to do pre-op liquid diet but I did have to prove that I've been dieting for a least five years. My doctors were able to document that for me.

Bottom line ... All insurance companies are different.

Are you through Why Weight? I wanted an appt with Dr. Lavin in Metairie. They recommend a 6 months registered dietician for insurance approval.

Yes, I'm seeing Dr. Lavin with Surgical Specialists( the office on the Northshore) for the first time this week. I'd really to see if see if there is any way the 4 month waiting period can be waived or reduced.

To be honest I think the 6mos supervised diet is great it's frustrating because of the wait but it's worth it .. And to answer your Q I think most insurance not all require a weightloss program w pcp , surgeon , nut or dietician you would have to call your insurance to make sure cause your may not ... I'm on my third month and I think it allows you to stop your bad habits and learn some post sleeve habits .. Also lose alittle weight ... Oh your I'm seeing a doc on the Northshore at northlake surgical associates Dr Karl Orydone across from st Tammany hospital . I for got to say that the has the day so on rather you do the supervised diet .. The surgeon may put u on a liquid diet after approval

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
