When Did You Get The Ekg And Labs?

Recommended Posts

I had my last weight in last week, the doc gave me a prescription to get the EKG and other lab work done. I am not sure when I am supposed to get this work done. Do I need to wait to get a Date first??? and then schedule it.

When did you guys had your Labs and EKG done?

TIA

Jenny

My doc gave me an order at my first appointment and said I can get them done anytime. I got my labs done right away. Still haven't done my ekg but I'm planning to when I go to my next appointment.

I had my EKG done a month prior to surgery. Depending upon your insurance company labs have to be done within 30days of the submittal. I made a mistake and got my labs done too early with my PCP thinking I could use those same labs and I couldn't So, I got stuck twice within a few weeks time span. Grrr!

I had my annual physical on Tuesday and they did the EKG, Chest X-Ray and H Pylori test then. He will fax the results to the surgeon when I am approved ( info was submitted to Cigna yesterday).

I have kaiser and when I saw the surgeon he said to get them done soon so I was already at the hospital and just went from department to department and had them all done.

my doc gave me my lab work order yesterday at my first appt. I was just told to get it done M-Th. I figured I'd do it the day I have my psych eval 8/28 since I'll be near the hospital and I've got to go into work late anyway. EKG & EGD I think they are going to wait until I get preapproved and have a surgery date.

The surgeon gave me an order for all the necessary labs, ekg, bone density scan, echocardiogram, and endoscopy. After I did that his secretary then made my appt for NUT, PSYCH, and endocrindologist. I will then meet with the surgeon again. They wanted to make sure I am healthy etc, before approving me on the surgeons side. Then I will send it to insurance.

There was some blood work I needed to complete before insurance approval. My upper GI was required prior to my dr appointment one month before date My other bloods, urine, EKG and check x ray needed to be done within 2 weeks of my date (8/20/12). Always best to ask you doctor. There is usually a surgery coordinator that knows everything!

Good luck.

When labs, ekg and other testing is done depends on several things. Is the testing being done as a baseline or is the testing pre operatively. Some doctors want baseline results so any issues can be corrected prior to your procedure.

The anesthesia department at the facility where your surgery is being done will dictate to some extent when your pre operative testing will be done. Some will only accept results within a specific time frame, and that time frame could depend on the particular lab or test. For example, if you are on certain medications that effect results, they may want the test the day before surgery or even the morning of your procedure. Just depends on many factors.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
