3 Weeks Out And So Tired!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 3 weeks ago today, I am back to work 1/2 days and come home and all I can do is take a 2 hour nap. Is anyone else going through this? And how can I break this? I have not exercised all week since I am exhausted!

What you are feeling is completely normal sad to say. I would come home & fall asleep setting up. Because you are still not getting the same amount of calories that your body is used to you will drag.

I'm over 4 weeks out & most nights I come home & am in the bed by 8:30. For a night person it is tough but your body desperately needs the rest.

I was told that I wouldn't feel "normal" or have my energy back until a few weeks after eating normal foods which for me is a month away.

Good luck & hang in there!!

Thanks to those who have replied to this thread.... I too get real tiered spells where I struggle to keep my eyes open (3 weeks post op) it's reassuring to know that's it's normal.... Thanks

I was dog tired every day till I was right at 4 weeks out, then seemed to suddenly get back my mojo overnight. My energy level is much higher now than before surgery even on 600-800 calories and 8 weeks out. Hang in there cuz it will pass.

May I ask how much you lost in your first four weeks? I'm getting sleeved next weekend and have a family reunion four weeks later. I know everyone is different but I am trying to decide if I am going to go to the party. I'm hoping maybe I could loose 20-26 lbs.

Totally normal, don't even think about the gym right now. There's different kinds of clear Protein Drinks you can buy, it will help with the tiredness. Isopure is a good one, cytosport is another, they're like drinking kool aid. But just take it easy, you have a new organ, its no small thing, give yourself a break.

Yes, it's normal. Try getting in more Protein. B12 shots helped me.

Completely normal!!! Just get as much rest as you can right now and let your body heal. You should start seeing a drastic improvement in your energy levels and feeling better in another couple of weeks at the most. Just keep trying to get as much liquid in you as you can. If the Protein drinks give you problems (sometimes they are too thick), then thin/dilute them with either a fat free milk or Water. For some people it is easier to drink warm drinks rather than cold. If that is you, (it was me) then keep your Protein Drinks & Water in the ice box and just pour a small amount (1/8 -1/4 cup) into a coffee cup and warm it and drink that, then repeat, repeat, repeat, all day so that you are conistently sipping your liquids/protein. At first I would fix a cup of chicken broth and put some in a coffee cup and I would put/set it on my electric mug warmer plate to keep it warm-it would take me so long to drink that coffee cup amount. I remember celebrating when I realized I had finished an entire cup of Soup amount by lunchtime.

Just remember, this takes time. Allow yourself the time to heal and you will get thru this!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
