Nauseous On Pre-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

Ok so yesterday was my first day in the pre-op diet and I had a pretty rough evening. I actually wasn't hungry but I did have a horrible headache and was feeling super nauseous. I can understand getting a headache but nausea?

Did anyone else have this issue also?

When I get a headache I often-times get nausea with it. The headaches don't last through the whole pre-op, so just give it a few days.

Not sure what you ate the days before the pre-op, but if you did any sort of carb overload, that could be the problem. Give it a few days, use cold packs on your neck and head, and remember if you were a soda drinker or coffee drinker, giving those up could also contribute to it.

Just take it light and give it some time and eventually you will feel better.

Good luck to you and the two week pre-op shake was the hardest part of the whole thing for me, because I didn't like the shakes I had to drink. New Direction was very weird tasting to me.

Best of luck!

Thanks Sleeve Master. I did eat a lot of carbs before starting the pre-op diet. I am just trying to get through these first few days.

A headache can make you nauseated. If you are historically a heavy caffeine user, you should taper off instead of quitting cold turkey. You definitely should stop though, as you won't get any the day of surgery or the day after, at minimum, and those would be terrible days for a caffeine headache.

I started my preop diet today. Hope to not get headaches. Hope yours goes away! Maybe it was a '1st day without food your body doesn't like that' headache. Lol

Good luck! We're on this journey together!!

Actually I don't drink coffee or soda...at all so I am sure it could be worst but knowing that in a few days I will feel better is helping me get through this.

Long ago, I tried herbalife shakes for weight loss (didn't work), but I recall feeling nauseous, on those. I think it was from consuming so much milk in a day. I wonder if you could try almond milk with your Protein Powder to see if it makes a difference. I'm on day 5 of liquids, and I have cut back on my milk, prefering to get it in yogurt form, and using more almond milk in my shakes. Good luck!

I am drinking the EAS shakes that are ready to drink since its much more convenient. I am also having sugar-free Jello, chicken broth or non-fat cottage cheese if I get hungry.

When I first went to the NUT,she suggested some things to accomplish during the 6 mos. I thought I would do them all so they'd be second nature by surgery time. Let me tell you, the caffeine withdrawal was the absolute pits and the nausea lasted about a week. I really should have taken it slower.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
