Starting Soft Food Stage, Any Ideas Will Be Helpful!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, today is 3 weks for me, I am very skeotical about starting the soft foods because everything that I eat does not tast like food. Maybe it was because it was pureed, I dont know. I do not like the greek yogurt because it tast like sour cream, I do not like rocotta cheese cheese at all, so I'm afraid that it will be hard to get my Protein in. I am out of ideals and I really need help. Although I do not vomit when I eat the puree meals, I think that i am just disgusted after the 4-5 bits and I am just nauseated for hours. I am also only getting in 375 calories I need to get to 500. HELP PLEASE! oh and I am not getting in my calicum liquid or chewables, I can not get past the taste. What are you using?

Soft food for me is fish, chicken thighs, turkey lunch meat, string cheese, mini baby bels and of course chicken and tuna salads. More chicken than tuna for me. I take the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews. The lemon tastes like a starburst and the chocolate is well chocolate. LOL

Good luck and experiment.

Thanks, I'm going out to get some fish today. Do you eat crackers with yout chicken and tuna salad, My Nut said it was ok, I am just scared, heck i scared to put anything in my mouth. The Nut said that I have performance anxiety. Who would have thunk it? LOL

Eggs! Frittattas, omelettes, a lifesaver. You can fill it with all kinds of things: mushrooms, salsa, bacon, etc. It's quick and easy to flavor it up. I also have a new love affair with Kale. Sauteed in olive oil and garlic, add some bacon if you like. It gives you a punch of veggies to go along with your Protein.

I also love baked or grilled Tilapia. It's quick and adds variety. I am honestly totallly burned out on tuna and chicken at this point. Fish is a welcomed alternative.

You'll be fine! My doc/nut moved me to softs at my two week post-op because I was doing so well (no vomiting or nausea, no problems swallowing). The only thing they said was to make sure I chewed really well. After purées and liquids, you'll be relieved to finally be able to chew something!

Oh, and just make sure things are moist - with deli turkey, I use some light mayo, I got some thinly sliced deli roast beef and use some gravy. And definitely the string cheese - a great snack and goes down easy.

I also take the Baristric Advantage calcium chews in lemon or berry, & the Celebrate chewable vitamins in Berry. Their not bad @ all & the advantages (like your hair not falling out) way outweigh the 10 second taste. Hang in there. My taste buds & sense of smell have changed too. It's just like having to discover foods for the 1st time. I also really enjoy Matrix chocolate, Unjury unflavored, & Unjury vanilla Protein powders. I put them in everything!

I think I failed to mention that my senses are all missed up, everything taste bad and everything stinks. i cant food cooking or the smell from packaged stuff or can stuff being opened. I have tried multiple powder Proteins including Unjury and the smell is over the top for me. I'm going to be a lost cause and hell I probably will loss my hair I am so discouraged.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
