Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Recommended Posts

I'm also an RN. I float all throughout the hospital filling in the staffing holes. My question is did any of you get sleeved where you work? I'm a little nervous cuz I pretty much know every nurse in the hospital. Awkward!

Welcome cjordan,

Congratulations on your decision to get healthy! I'm scheduled for the 8th as well. I'm a little nervous then I put myself in check. Nursing knowledge is a good and bad thing as you know. Staying positive and confident is a must. I believe in my surgeon and we have a history together. This will be our third trip to the OR together (Lapband-Removal-Sleeve). I am aware my risk is higher this time around secondary scar tissue, but there has been 2 years since the band was removed so I'm certain my stomach is well healed and willing to take the risk. I believe the surgery will be a success, I have to!

I work in the recovery room and we've had a few nurses come in for the surgery. All info is confidential and all the nurses seem to get lots of support when they come back to work. Me, personally, I went to a different hospital because the nurses I work with are surprisingly very judgmental. Nice to the patients face then rolls their eyes behind their back.

I'm glad this thread is still going :) I finally have a surgery date - Aug 13th! I hated the 6 month diet at first but really.....it was great. I quit caffeine, carbonation, high fat food, and discovered I really like running. Granted I can't run much or fast because it's too hard on my knees, but at least I'm doing something!

I had my preop appt yesterday and I got my insurance approval letter over the weekend. I also added another week to my leave from work. My liver reduction diet is going to be a shock to my system. It's so low carb my endocrinologist and I weren't too confident I could work my busy 12 hour shifts without passing out lol I knew there was a reason I saved up so much PTO.

I got a new job! I'll be starting in two weeks, but I just wanted to post it here because I really think the sleeve and subsequent weight loss gave me the confidence and look I needed to be able to land it! I'm an informatics nurse, and I'll be working for a large home care/hospice organization implementing an EHR). This position will require some travel, something I would have never been able to even consider before due to not fitting in plane seats (that used to give me months of dread if I knew I had to travel). I am so happy I had the surgery, it has really changed my life! I can't wait to see what the next 60 pounds lost brings! It's like the clock is turning back for me. I'm so grateful for this gift :)

I've been a Psych RN for 37 years. I work for Orlando Health. I probably would have had my surgery at one of my company's hospitals, but I was denied by Health Choice, (our insurance company) so I'm going to Mexico for the VSG as a self-pay. I've got 10 days before my surgery and I'm really excited. It will be interesting compare the quality of care in Mexico vs. Orlando Health's "Patient First" policy. From what I've heard, I think I'm going to be pleasantly surprised. My Surgeon is Guillermo Alvarez, MD in Piedras Negras, MX>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
