At What Weight Limit Did You Say "you Have Had Enough"?

Recommended Posts

When my Weight Watchers leader told me the program wasn't working for me and I needed to try something else. I had already tried Nutrisystem' date=' Adipex, Phen Phen, Atkins, south beach, cabbage Soup, slim fast meals, and the blood type diet. I needed something REALLY different. I found it![/quote']

That's awesome to hear glad u made a great turn around. This is all very helping for me I don't really talk to too many people about my weight.

For me it wasn't much of the numbers on the scale. It was the diabetes that was out of control and the meds. were making me very, very sick. Hoping to reverse the diabetes and losing the weight is going to be a big,big bonus.

Totally a numbers thing here. I recently lost 30lbs and then it came back (dang crap sneaks up on ya). I hit 191 and said NO WAY! I'm not hitting 200 at 50 years old. I don't want to have the comorbidity issues that get the surgery paid for.

And part was my stage in life. Ds had been terribly I'll for years and is now generally well. Dh has a crazy busy business which is successful bit time consuming. I decided its "me time".

I ballooned up to 290 lbs, and when I saw myself in a mirror I didn't even recognize myself anymore. I knew I had to do something, not only did I look bad, I felt physically horrible. My knees & back ached and my eating was out of control. This was the best decision I could have made for myself.

I have had a lot of days like that I mean I ache from my left knee all the time. Sucks I know its my weight just wish I would have thought about the sleeve a long time ago

For me my weight has always bothered me. I have been saying "enough is enough" since I was 170lbs.. I'm 5 feet tall. Highest weight 280. I'm pre op, scheduled for october. But it's when I stopped taking care of myself that I realized I needed an intervention. When something as simple as having a shower became a chore...I started showering once a weeks. Sick I know, but the mere cleansing and getting in the folds etc was exhausting. I stopped attending social events..such as weddings or birthdays. I started sleeping my days away...avoided shopping...cleaning myself after a bm caused me to break out in a sweat. I was getting short of breath after everything...crying a lot. That's when I knew

I turned 30 this year and I gained 10 lbs in 1 month. I'm tired all the time and though I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes yet, my dad died from complications with diabetes. And my mom was diagnosed last year. I can't disrespect them and even more importantly, myself any longer. I've been trying to lose 15 lbs for 4 years then I gained 10. That's when I realized I need help. I want to have children someday, but I can't take care of them if I don't take care of me. I had the initial consultation a week after my birthday, 6 months of doc visits and I should be ready to go! I don't have a date yet but expect end of November or early December. Thanks for asking such a great question, it helps to keep focused on why I'm making this change. It's great to see everyone's responses and I wish you all the best of luck!

I would always be bouncing back from 10 lbs up and down. They don't even have plus size in Old Navy over here anymore. Little Rock, Arkansas to say the least.

They don't here either. I'm on the larger end of the "regular" sizes there.

My height and structure has saved me from a lot in this weight issue.

I know I need to re assure myself that I am not the only one and that their is people like me. My worst fear is not being able to have kids. Pcos is a monster and I am tired of irregular periods. Wishing you luck

Yeah booths are another thing I forgot to mention! I pray if there is a booth that it is "moveable" so I can slyley slide it forward because usually the person on the other side has a foot of room in front of them to spare. I have noticed when I go out to eat with friends or siblings that it's usually me alone on one side of the booth...do they think I need lots of room or something? New years eve last year when we got out of a party but didn't really have much food to eat my bf sugessted we go to Denny's at 2-3am for Breakfast cause nothing else was open. Well the booth there was too tight..I got in but was uncomfortable. My bf asked "are u ok babe"? I said yeah but that was a lie. We hadn't ordered yet and he said u know it's ok if we go somewhere else?...and I said no its ok. He's very supportive of my decision and has stuck by my for the last 4 years where i have gained 50 lbs. has never once said anything about my weight but it's not fair to him...he doesn't need to change plans etc just because I can't fit.

Another thing- I am a nurse and therefore moving a lot all day long. Sick and tired of sweat pouring down my back and the sweatiness under my breasts when I'm working..especially in this heat! That is one of the millions of things I'm not gonna miss about being oberweight!!

As a fellow Cyster, I wish you all the luck in the world. Many women with pcos go on to have children. The desire, no, the bone deep need, to have children is what prompted me to go and get the band in 2008 (should have resisted the band; I wanted RNY but was talked out of it....). 4 years later I am still childless and now40. It's too late for me (now in peri-menopause) but not for you! Good luck and I will pray for your success with the sleeve and motherhood!

Cheers!

I wish the same about resturants that I go too!!! Been their and suffered for like an hour in a booth took it like a champ couldn't even eat my food because I couldn't afford any more room. Yeah I feel like my husband is missing out on so many things that we could be doing together. He weighs 189 healthy 5'10 me 5'3 and 289 not a good picture but he has supported me through thick and thin and supports me all the way on this.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
