Im Desirae, im about 4days post op and im glad to say surgery went awesome! I only spent 2days in the hospital when they realized me for all the hard work i did walking around! Im at home, recovering nicely try to do my best to walk around and stuff. I have a little brother, hes 8 (im only 18) and he doesn't really understand that sissy can't eat like he does..and he trys to share his food with me,and feed it too me and I have to tell him no and it makes me really sad. I really miss the joy of being able to go out, or eat a home cooked meal with my friends and family. I feel so exiled, and im such a social person its starting to really get to me? I know i got a long way to go, but i really miss it. Any advice loves?

It is normal. I did the same thing my first week. 3months 3 weeks out I no longer obsese over food. I eat to make my body function. Other wise I would not eat. I went from 261 to 210 and I don't regret it one bit.

Absolutely went thru this!!!! It made me realize food was absolutely and obsession for me. I was living to eat and now I eat to live. I never understood that before the surgery. Now it is empowering!! I love it!!

Im 5 weeks out and miss eating so much lately. I'm losing and so thankful for that. But I would LOVE to have a BLT or meatloaf anything with some texture and flavor. Its been almost 2 going on 3 months since I had what I consider real food. I miss sooo much an ice cold Coke. I still have the pain when I try to eat. I have to stop after only 5 bites. I went out to Cracker Barrel this morning with my husband and had to order just one egg and a sausage...couldn't eat the sausage. I ordered milk just to make me feel a little normal. One drink and my taste buds about spit it out. When will I feel normal or feel what I am is normal? With alot of stress at work, it only makes this worse.

Hi! You have no idea how lucky you are that you were able to have this surgery at your age. I'm 58 and wasted many years being "fluffy". When you begin to lose weight and drop pant sizes, you won't miss the food at all. It is true that you can't sit and eat large quantities of food like you did post-surgery. However, you will now be eating a lot more frequently - just smaller quantities. You'll also be a lot more selective in what you decide to put in your mouth.

Once your friends start to notice your weightloss-and more importantly-guys-you won't miss the food. I promise you. At your age it will literally fall off you. Listen to your stomach and stop eating when you sense you're full. Don't go overboard and you'll be at your goal weight before your 19th birthday. Good luck and keep us posted. We're rooting for you :D

Hi

Look how much you've lost so far. You're doing so well! I think the problem is your head hasn't realized that you're losing weight yet. In a few more weeks you won't miss the food a bit. I promise you. Keep up the good work.

Hey, girl! Wow, you are so ahead of the life change having this done so early! In a few weeks, you'll be able to eat some regular foods. Don't stop going out with your friends and family...just pick places that have food you'll be able to eat. You could order a sweet potato at a restaurant, or scrambled eggs... Don't give up or get depressed. Your new stomach will not want a lot of food. You can still do so many things, and will feel better doing them!

I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well! Maybe make a list of all the things you want to do but couldn't because of your weight and post it on the fridge? A night or two before surgery I felt like I couldn't sleep cause I was having a mini panic attack about all the things I "would never be able to" eat again. Now that I'm post surgery I'm finding that my interest in them for physical hunger is low to non-existent. My brain, however, still sees something once in a while and goes Ohhh that would be good, before my stomach kicks in and tells me to stop being a doof.

I plan on going to food counseling. My cousin found it super useful to deal with her issues with food after her RNY surgery. Do you think that might be beneficial for you? It might be worth a try. Maybe you can let your brother taste a couple of things of your as you continue on. Not all the foods are too bad, and maybe it will help him understand a little better? I know he's young, but maybe he won't feel left out at all that way.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
