    Did You Make a Wig?

I am a little over 8 months post-op, and my hair is still majorly falling out. I still have handfuls when I brush and wash it, and daily i have loose hair that I'm picking off my shirts. I went to a board certified dermatologist bc even my nurse practitioner was concerned about the amount I'm still losing. She told me that some ppl do experience this extreme loss like I have after surgery. I've lost almost 80 pounds, so I'm thrilled with this. I just miss my hair. I take all my vitamins and even taking a prescription now that my dermatologist has put me on....and it's still coming out handfuls a day. I hope it stops soon, or I'll have no choice but to wear wigs.

    Crazy Hair Loss! HELP!

I was sleeved July 2012, and I've lost well over half of my hair. I have an appt with a dermatologist Friday bc my nurse practitioner was so concerned about it not slowing down and the amount I've already lost. We know it's normal, but she didn't want to assume its from the surgery and it be more serious for me. I'm getting all my protein, taking all my vitamins including biotin and hair & nails vitamin, using special shampoos & hair protein treatments. I, too, am very concerned about it. I find my hair everywhere!!!! Good luck to you!!
  4. I did it, too...the same thoughts and more. I was self-pay...my insurance wouldn't cover it. So, I also had the "you've spent all this money on yourself, and its all your fault." You are completely normal. For me, it wasn't a choice anymore. I was a complete failure at it every time. I believe all of us that have gone through surgery tried everything else first. Just remember to tell yourself You Are Worth It!!!!
  5. I'm trying to find something new.... What's your favorite ingredients to add to your protein shakes?

    Pain when drinking

I'm almost 7 months out, and I remember having the same pains my first few days. If something is too cold, or too big of a swallow, I will still feel some pain for a few seconds.

    Hiccups after meals

I get them, too...and usually burp a lot, too. Thankfully, they aren't really loud! I'm almost 7 months out. My husband will still laugh at the sounds my stomach still makes!
  8. So, I'm 11 days short of 7 months. I had my 6 month checkup yesterday and my nurse practitioner is so concerned with my incredible hair loss that she's referring me to a dermatologist. I've lost over half of my hair. I've always taken all my vitamins (including Biotin), got all my protein in, using the specialty shampoos and protein hair treatments... I'm afraid I'm going to lose all of it. I'd even wear a hat to work if I could. On a good note, all my blood tests are great. I'm off my meds, cholesterol and blood pressure are all great. I'm trying to focus on the good and positive things, but its so hard dealing with losing this amount of hair. Growing up, I loved my hair when I didn't love anything else about me. Thanks for letting me vent to people I know can possibly relate and understand.

    TMI Alert!

Remember, too, that you are eating MUCH less. Less in, less out. Haha.

    munchies

My nurse practitioner & surgeon told me that I was actually dehydrated when I was feeling hungry. So, when I started thinking I was hungry, I would drink, drink, and drink. It worked for me. Hope this helps!
  11. Thanks everyone. I guess I just have to be patient. I'm healthier than I was, even if my hair is falling out! I was afraid I'd lose it all, so it's good to know it will stop...one day! I just ordered some Isopure to help me get in all my protein. I haven't tried them, so I'm hoping I like them. I struggle getting in all my protein bc I get so full! Thanks again!
  12. When will my hair stop falling out? Handfuls and handfuls...I was dealing with it ok but I thought it was supposed to stop at around 6 months. I'm past that and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I'm getting depressed! I'm taking all my vitamins, special shampoos...everything I know. My nurse practitioner gave me the phone number of a dermatologist that specializes in female hair loss, but her website talks about how her medicines "may cause liver damage." When can I expect it to stop falling out and start growing back?

    July Sleevers

My surgery was July 18th, and I've lost 70. So, I'm right there with you!!! I've got to get back to exercising regularly, too. My hair has fallen out tremendously...handfuls every single day. I'm hoping and praying that stops soon. My hair was already so thin, and now I can see my scalp all through my hair. I'm doing all I can-biotin, vitamins, protein, and special shampoos. Oh well, enough of my pity self!! I feel great for losing what I have; I gotta get my butt back to the gym! Best wishes & success to everyone!
  15. I was just searching for some advice on this!!! I was also sleeved in July, and my hair is also coming out in handful clumps! I hate washing or brushing my hair because it seems more and more is coming out! A big disadvantage for me is that I already had thin hair-it's in my genes. I'm taking my vitamins, including Biotin, and using specialized shampoo. I've lost right at 60 pounds, so I'm thrilled about this, but getting depressed about my hair. My nurse practitioner has given me a referral to a specialist for female hair loss, but after research on her website, it keeps saying over and over that meds they prescribe could cause liver damage. I'm trying to be healthier...
  16. If you'll read other people's posts, you'll see she had major complications that most people don't have. Iggy Chic has been through so much! All of us on here are here for the same reason-for support & encouragement. I try to make sure that's what all my posts do.
  17. I also had the same feelings. I remember coming home and crying, wondering what in the world I had done to myself! The first two weeks were the hardest for me. You will make it. I had people on here tell me that, too, and I really wondered if I would. Sugar free jello made me sick. I didn't throw up, but it didn't stay in me long at all. Sometimes I wonder if its the sugar substitutes. Hang in there. I'm 3 months out and have lost 51 pounds. You'll make it!!!

    Fell Off The Wagon!

I battle making the right decisions every day. I let myself get too hungry and then end up reaching for anything, like I did today. One bite of something too sweet turns my stomach, but I do fight the battle with carbs!!! Someone posted a pic a few days ago of an entire family size bag of Doritos crushed and fit in this little measuring cup. Unbelievable. It's been 3 months for me and I've lost 50 lbs, but have a long way to go. Hang in there. Think about everything you've sacrificed to be healthy!!! Don't beat yourself up, just get back on the wagon!

    No -One Responds!

I would absolutely stay in the hospital. This is MAJOR surgery, and they will be able to monitor you and help you. I went to work 3 weeks after surgery, but I'm a teacher and on my feet chasing children all day! One week post-op I was okay, just really tired. Remember you'll still only be on fluids at the end of your first week, or at least my diet plan was. Best of luck!!

1 Day Post Op, Lots Of Pain :(

I had to remind myself that this was MAJOR surgery. It will get better, but give yourself some time. The first couple of days were the absolute hardest, then it got a little easier, and a little easier. Be sure you are up and walking frequently. You do need your rest, but I found my stomach hurt the most when I had been still for too long. I also kept a pillow in my lap bc the anesthesia made me cough a good bit, so the pillow helped the incisions when I coughed. It will get better. People told me the same things and I wondered if it really would, but it does. Hang in there.
  21. I'm 3 months post-op, and I do struggle making the right choices all the time. Sweets don't really appeal to me anymore. I had one small bite of my daughter's birthday cake last month and became extremely nauseated. Before surgery, I would have eaten that cake for breakfast, lunch, snacks....whenever!! I struggle with carbs. Breads, crackers, potatoes...I love them all. I am battling the mental issue still. I used to love to eat. It was a major part of my day. Now, I'm full with 3 bites of a grilled chicken breast. I know I'll be okay; I've just got to get my mind right. I've lost 48 pounds without really being on a plan. I'm not sure what my plan is supposed to be. I try to focus on protein, but I've found several protein shakes & even eggs can make me feel so sick.
  22. So, I live water...I really do. However, sometimes I want something else. Crystal Light is ok, but does anyone have any other suggestions? I used to be addicted to diet cokes. I'd have at least 3 Sonic sized Route 44s a day, and more can drinks in between those, so I'd really like to stay away from those. I'm worried if I had one I wouldn't stop. Any suggestions?
