Oh Diet Coke, How I've Missed Thee...

Recommended Posts

Deep breaths guys =) we all just want each other to be healthy and okay through this healing time. No point in arguing down each other or trying defensive.

.

Not me, I ate better than you, followed more rules than you, worked out more than you, and you're a loser. Hahaha!

Just kidding :)

I hate having my pic taken and I've only been using my iPhone to post' date=' which has about 1000 pictures of my cat and dog.[/quote']

I love my caffeine free diet Pepsi. i know I will have to quit all together, regardless. I love not only the taste but the way the carbonation feels in my mouth. I have picked up a can that was out a little too long and end up spitting it out because it's flat. I know I will suffer the withdrawls, but being healthy is worth the price.

Losing does feel good - I'm down about a lb a day, now 15 since surgery on 7/17.

How can losing this much this quickly be healthy?

I know it's definitely hard on a chemical balance. All the fat burning off it releasing estrogen into our systems at an abnormal rate.

Glad to see everyone has apologized and made nice, lol. I hate when I have to come into a thread and remind everyone about our rules regarding personal attacks. Fortunately, I didn't have to this time, or did I just do that? Oh goodness, and added a "roll's eyes" to it too.

I will behave myself now and just say this, I stay away from all soda, but it is because I love diet coke and regular coke and once I start, I can't stop. In fact, about two months ago I got back in the habit of drinking it again after not having done so for almost six years. Man, was I mad at myself, and not diet, the full loaded sugary calorie stuff. So, I had to go cold turkey on it again about three weeks ago and am feeling much better again.

Yeah' date=' I totally don't get this. All the diet Crystal Lights and crap are the same as diet Coke.

Not being so fat anymore is certainly healthier, but sugar substitutes don't automatically mean healthy lifestyle.

That being said, rock on Diet Coke drinker.

This is some crazy logic/justification stuff right here, and I've read it several times here lately. If you think crystal light is so bad for you then don't drink it, but don't use that as a justification for drinking diet coke.

I think it's quite possible that the reason many doctors put a ban on sodas is because many of us here have little to no self discipline. If we could dance around the chocolate cake and only eat one small bite, we would have been doing that all along. But instead we ate our whole piece, plus somebody else's.

Some people will not be able to stop at flat diet coke zero. They will want one with the caffeine, which will only work against your hydration efforts (which are so important in the very early stages). Then they will want a non-diet coke. Then they will want that little taste of carbonation that apparently so many are addicted to. It snowballs from there.

You don't let a former heroin addict have a little bit of heroin every day after he leaves rehab.

I bet there are a lot more soda addictions here than there are crystal light addicts. Maybe that's why the crystal light is not such a danger.

This made me think of an old saying "If you play with snakes you are gonna get bit". Unhealthy food choices are our snakes.

I don't recall asking for opinions, but hey, if standing on that soap box preaching to the masses does it for you, far be it for me to stop you.

I'm an adult, a professional (attorney) with three degrees. I'm not a moron, and certainly don't need someone on an internet message board telling me what is right and wrong for my body. Let's face it, if you knew all there was to about nutrition, you wouldn't have gotten to the point of needing a sleeve, now would you? Lopping off 85% of your stomach doesn't suddenly make you an expert.

My doctor and I had a discussion about soda when I was banded and he said all things in moderation. The flat out ban is because there are people who who will drink multiple Big Gulps of sugary drinks, not for the the diet soda drinker. And carbonation isn't stretching out anything - it's a fallacy. It causes gas. Shocking, right? I can live with a little extra gas when the alternative is feeling like crap from being miserable.

Adult, professional, three degrees, & still haven't figured out that if you post on a public forum, you are likely to get responses? Even a few that you don't want to hear. I'm guessing that you don't actually make into a courtroom very often if a post on a public forum gets you this bent out of shape.

KERPLAM!

OP, knew good and doggone well what kind of responses she'd get with this thread.

How is sipping flat diet Coke like playing with a snake?

This is just like if a pregnant woman eats a ham sandwich and she gets lectured on listeria and lunch meat.< /p>

BTW, soda has never been my vice. Could never finish a whole one. Flavored teas are my vice; namely mango and peach.

I was a major soda drinker preop. I gave it up 2 Weeks prior to surgery June 25th. Ive taken a sip of it last week and it tasted awful. I feel better and more energy than I ever have til I took that sip made me feel sluggish. my nut and doc said its safe to introduce carbonation 6 months out. there is no risk of harming your sleeve with carbonation they warn you away cuz of gas and discomfort. Good luck to you :)

Not everyone is such a slave to the slippery slope. Since my wife got pregnant, she's been off diet soda and has been drinking the full-sugared stuff. We have virtually every flavor of soda in our refrigerator, but I have zero interest. I had my Diet Coke the other day, it filled my need, and that was that.

The all or nothing mentality doesn't work for everyone, and the comparison to heroin is silly - no one ever died from a Diet Coke overdose.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
