It can be scary ... And I have yet to be sleeved but honestly can't wait for it to happen! Think about it ... The risk of death or complications is much less than the risk of health issues due to obesity. This is a great tool for us to get our lives and health back! Wishing you the best in whatever you decide :)

No matter what surgery you have, there are going to be the risks of complications. Surgery in general is about weighing potential gain vs risk, and in non-elective surgery it's a little more black and white because we accept that the procedure has to be done. For me, the potential of this surgery changing my life and giving me a new opportunity to avoid/minimize disease processes, like diabetes, is worth it to me. I have exhausted the options I have on my own to lose weight and have not been successful. I realize that there are risks, but I have faith in my surgeon and myself that we will both do everything possible to minimize these risks.

I think it's a very personal decision, and it's not one to be made lightly, by any means. It is important to educate yourself about both sides of the surgery, because for every bad outcome there are a number of good outcomes. When I start to feel anxious/panicked, I look through all the post-op posts and try and remind myself that I'm doing this for my health and my future.

Complications are a risk of any surgery. They are rare and we seldom see them but they can and do happen sometimes. We have a number of regular posters here that did have complications and a rough start but are now recovered and happily sleeved. Many more of us never had any complications.

It's easy to get scared prior to surgery. I think it's important to read a number of posts about peoples experiences - both the good and the bad, so you know both sides of the story. Too many people only read the positive and are blindsided by the difficulties we can encounter after surgery.

Only you can make this choice and only you can decide if it's worth the risks. The odds of a complication, especially if you chose a respected and experienced surgeon, are very low.

Best of luck. My sleeve changed my life and I'm thankful every day I had it done.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
