Hi All,

I saw the Dr last Saturday, Ive now got 7.5mls in my 10ml band, at last I have a restriction!! I can eat a childs plate full of food, no problem, but anymore its uncomfortable. Its taken since April to get a restriction (long time) so we'll see what happens now  I am being good diet wise now, and im trying to do more exercise. Fingers crossed my restriction lasts!! :)

Sara x

This is wonderful Sara!!!!! Good luck keeping the restriction.

I was banded with the 11 cc VG band 2 years ago, and I am now at about 6.5 cc. I am at a good space now, still have trouble when I forget to chew. I am very tight in the am and less in the evenings. I don't do bread well at all, so have pretty much stopped eating it.

I took a year off as I found out I had breast cancer, went through all the surgery, radiation and chemo. I gained about 20 lbs during that process, but have now since lost the 20 lbs I gained with a fill. I am doing well now with both of my problems. So I only feel as if I have truly had my band for a year not two.

I now it is hard when we don't loose as fast as we want but we are all differen't and we must have patience. Believe me I know how hard it is, but I am not giving up!!

I got my second fill today and now I have 6 in my band. Looking at the poll it seems that this may be a good point of restriction. Im hoping so. Guess I really wont know for a couple of days since I have to do clear for 24 than full for 24 before going back to solids. I hope this is better than where I was with 4 because while eating dinner Sunday night I realized that if I wanted to I could have eaten a lot more than what I did. Thats a scary feeling.

I have 6.0 cc in my band now, and am trying to figure out what good restriction is. Last night I could eat whatever I wanted, and no fullness or slowing down. This morning, I ate 3 bites of soft scrambled eggs and was in pain for 3 hours. Maybe it's a matter of how much I'm willing to put up with. Is that pain what is considered "restriction" because it's staying in my pouch? If I chew well and eat slowly, it's still going to stay in my pouch, right...that's the idea isn't it?

This afternoon I slimed on yogurt. I pb'd the slime, and then ate the rest of the yogurt with no problem. I think it may have been Water I drank before I ate the yogurt caused an airpocket.

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated....I mean GREATLY!!

Hello O2b, I have experienced the same problem. I have 6.2 cc's in my band and finally reached what I think is some restriction some of the time--mostly in the mornings. The rest of the time I can eat whatever whenever with no feeling of fullness. This has been going on since the end of May but I go back to the Dr. next week. I think I'm going to ask for a little more fill. I have felt the same pain as you but only as a result of eating too quickly or not chewing thoroughly enough. I was banded last November and we've been fooling around with restriction ever since. I think it's time to kick a little butt and get a handle on good restriction. I have to admit the weight loss has been good--94 pounds, 50 of that before the surgery--but I've a long way to go. I feel like it could have been lots better had the restriction been right. Good luck to you!!

Susan

I am with you all on the fill questions....not sure what to eat when. Mornings I have much greater restrictions, loosens as the day goes along. I too have had the "stuck" thing going on. I decided not to allow myself another fill until I get the 'chew slow and little bits' thing down. I have to learn to respect my band and change my habits, which is so difficult for me. I have always eaten (gobbled) very quickly! I had 5 cc on the first fill and another 1.8 on the second. I have lost 73 since Jan 29th. It's getting close to time for another fill, it's been two weeks since anything was stuck and I decided when I can go a month, I will get another fill. I am down to about one pound loss per week, which I am greatful, but would like to double that. I too can eat about anything, not as much as I used to, but still more than I need.

I'm really glad I read your posts because I have had one fill so far (2 cc) and have no restriction. After an intial weight loss, I haven't lost anything. I'm fighting every day not to overeat so at least I don't gain. I thought there was something wrong with either me or the band. Now I know that others have a problem with the VG. Obviously, I'll need more fills. I'm annoyed that neither my doctor nor the nurse practitioner (who does the fills) told me why the VG band was used and that it would require a lot of adjustments to get restriction. Since the nurse is only in my area about once a month, it's going to take a long time for me to get a good adjustment (the sweet spot) unless I can travel to her, which will be a pain in the butt.

My fill dr said that with the VG band that we will reach the same place as the smaller one, it's just a bigger band for those of us who had a larger stomach. The first time I said fill er up. He said the average fill is 4 times for this band. He only has one patient with an 8.2 and the rest are below that. So that leaves me hopeful since I am at 6.8 already. I don't think I lost anything last week, which has happened off and on, but I am ready for another 20 to be off.

I have had 5 fills to get to my current 7cc's, and it has only been with this last fill that I finally got enough restriction to feel like I have a band. I am getting another fill next week and will probably just get .5cc. My doctor says that most people hit their "sweet spot" between 6cc to 8cc so most of us are doing what is expected. I think those of us having the VG band have less problems with PBs, because we go slower with restriction and have more time to adjust our eating habits. Most people I know with the smaller band have been dealing with vomiting and other issues almost since their surgery. I know it can get frustrating to go so slowly with weight loss and restriction, but hopefully in the long run this way will be better. :girl_hug:

Hey All,

I now have 10.2 CC in my band. Doctor told me yesterday at my 3rd fill, after he filled me completely (and I started 'backing up' with barium) - that I am just 'one of those people' who don't get the full sensation. Oh great.

Today, I'm sure I'm swollen. I'm getting down about 1/4 cup of egg salad; and stayed full on that for about 4 hours.

Hello, I too have the 10cc band. I had my first fill on July 31, 5cc. I did not have an easy fill, my port was tilted and being a big baby, I got dizzy. I feel when she pulled the needle out some may have come out? But I do have some fullness feeling and there are some foods I can't eat.

I really think i will only need one more fill. I don't want to get to tight, but want to see the weight loss numbers increase. It seems some docs fill little amounts, and you ahve 6-7 fills before you get to the spot. I think my doc is more agressive. Not sure what is best. With my weak nerves, less fills is better for me.

I have a fill appt. on Tuesday. I was on vacation for 10 days, so at my appt. before I left, they said NO to the fill until I came back. So, as a result I gained 3 lbs!! Well, can't blame it on the band, but my BAD choices..

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
