Hi

I was at my surgeons for the first time today, I drove home crying all the way!!!

I need to have medicare, and told him about the decission what was made on June 27th, that they are approving the sleeve on a first come first serve bases. He told me they have submitted over 100 of them since the June 27 decission and has not been approved on any of them. Please tell me has anyone received a approval for the sleeve on Medicare.

Thank you.

I called Medicare a second time and they acted ignorant to the fact that there was ever a decision made. Of course the reps on the phone are the last to know.

I've completed all Medicare requirements for VSG and will go on my surgeons list for October (I'll get my firm date end of August)! My surgeon says I have a slam dunk claim, and there is no logical reason I would be denied coverage. In my Medicare Administrative Contractors region of G (MN, WI, IL), the hospitial sumbits the claim "after" the surgery is complete. My hostpital feels comfortable with their chances at a successful Medicare claim so VSG here I come! Seems backwards, and potentially risky for both the hostpital and patient but thats the way it works here.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the decision making (MAC) approves my VSG claim without making it difficult on me and the hostpital!

Check out this link for more indepth information about how making claims with Medicare for the VSG works....

Interesting, I just had a consult and my doctor said Medicaid does not cover the Sleeve? But some of your doctors are still submitting?

Are there different kinds of Medicaid?

I live in MA, and my secondary insurance is from the State, Medicaid. (MassHealth) They do cover the sleeve. I was just put on Medicaid on Aug 1, so I cried when I found out that Medicare won't cover.

I made a call to my Medicaid office, and they said since my secondary insurance is Medicaid if Medicare denies the procedure, and "they" (Medicaid) covers it, then they will approve it.

I've yet to call my doctors office but the billing coordinator said maybe by the time I complete all requirements Medicare will cover the procedure.
