The biggest trend I've picked up on is that the people who take pre-surgery weight loss and working out seriously before the required pre-op diet (3-4 months before surgery) have an easier recovery.
If you can't walk a mile without huffing and puffing before surgery, you're definitely gonna feel worse after surgery, especially when you're trying to get into some kind of shape while also recovering from surgery. Separating those phases is important; having some base level fitness before any surgery is important for efficient healing and avoiding complications like blood clots and pneumonia.
The second thing I've noticed is that if you convince yourself you're gonna feel like **** after surgery, you will feel like **** after surgery. If you prepare your body and mind for surgery, you are more likely to be confident in a positive outcome and recovery, both short and long-term.
A note on bougie size: 32-36 French is the broad consensus. You can click here for more info: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47390-international-sleeve-gastrectomy-expert-panel-consensus-statement-best-practice-guidelines-based-on-experience-of-12000-cases

Awesome! My post op diet was two weeks liquids, two weeks mushies, then all solids. I was so happy to see food. It's tough, not going to lie. I remember at week two, my hubbie brought home a B-B-Q chicken wing and i actually licked it to death.. LOL, that was pretty low for me!

Started my preop diet Aug 25th. Weighed 385. Had surgery on Aug 30th. (yes I was suppossed to start a couple days sooner, but it was hard) I did cheat one day and had a cheeseburger and fries. On Aug 30th before surgery, I weighed 369. Today I am at 363. Had surgery Thursday, came home Friday, walked a mile Saturday, walked 2 miles Sunday, walked 3 miles yesterday. I am almost pain free in my abdomen. craving food, but the thought of throwing up scares me from trying anything. I have only thrown up like 3 times in my life. 39 year old male by the way. Everything is going smooth and easy. Oh, and I am back at work today and having no issues. One thing I will say is I have done everything the doctors have asked. Protein shakes, creamed soups, water, sugar free jello and pudding, and thats pretty much it. I can't see into the future, but for now, this was very easy and pretty much painless.

3 weeks out and tonight I went to a family function and I used to love eating boiled and susage with my dip made of mayo rotel ketchup etc. and I love love boil crabs. But tonight I sat an war he'd everyone eating and I was completely fine. I even sat down and peel shrimp to make me a shrimp
Salad for work. Felt so good until I got home with the cake and licked the spoon that had icing with about 90 g of sugar in it. But overall being at a buffet for lunch and a seafood boil for supper I did real damn good !!!!

You eat so little of anything early out! I say use the regular stuff that doesn't have toxic fat free junk in it. That's been my secret-- enjoy the small portions, make it taste great and satisfying. I made goal at 8.5 months that way. I still use regular everything and skip the fat- removed sugar added crap.

I'm 4 days post op and the desire for solid protein is driving me crazy. Today, I was travelling back to California. In the airport I ordered chicken noodle soup. I only drank the broth. But I took a few dime size pieces of chicken, chewed them like crazy and ate them. No arguments from my sleeve. It was so satisfying. Should I be concerned?

I am having a hard time. Missing my friend food. Even with the pre diet i could cheat every now and then. Not any more. Feel like i lost my security blanket. So much more mentally unstable than i expected. Dammit.

Nah, I'm with LT on this. If I could have just said no, I am never eating certain foods again, then I wouldn't have needed this surgery. I could have and should have been able to do it on willpower if that were the case. I am a foodie, I thoroughly enjoy food. I did so to an excess. I got the sleeve so I can continue to enjoy the foods I like, but in moderation. I have not and will not give up anything, sorry. The majority of the time, I try to make healthy choices, but if I want something, I eat it. My sleeve prevents me from overdoing it like I did in the past and I love it.
So, yeah, I am one of those everything in moderation kind of gals.

I have gone through a 10lb weight gain in the hospital, nasty breath, crazy digestion, dizziness, exhaustion to feeling like I am now on the other side of this! I was getting really annoyed that I was not losing any weight beyond re-losing the 10lb hospital gain but finally I dropped an additional 5lbs. Yesterday, I tried on a pair of capris that "shrunk" last summer and they buttoned, zipped and were more comfortable than when I bought them. As an added bonus I found $13 in the pocket, so I splurged on a manicure!
I am having an easy time getting my fluid and protein in, walking more, digestion is much better, much less soreness and no more dizziness on days 9 and 10!
Thank you for letting me share my small acomplishment
