How Many Pounds Was It After Surgery Before Your Clothes Were Too Big?

Recommended Posts

Was it twenty pounds, thirty pounds before you were able to go into a smaller sizes pants? Since I'm top heavy my pants get smaller than the shirts. All booby, all the time I guess :D

I was noticing a change at 20 lbs, easy - but I have alot of abdominal fat. Depending on height, fat distribution, genetics (where you keep and shed your fat) and many other things people wil vary...

Don't be discouraged if you have to lose a bit for it to show in any one place - it will begin to show, I promise.

I think it depends on "clothes" as well! I was in lots of stretchy clothes so can still wear those. However noticed jeans and khaki's show bigger difference.

i carry my weight all over, like a watermelon (vs. apple or pear), so it was a good 30, maybe 40 lbs before i needed to go down enough to get a few new things. But, when I lost, I lost it from my wrists, arms, chest, back, tummy, legs, ankles, face, neck, etc.

I'm jealous of your all boobie all the time. I feel like that was the first thing to go.

At 100 pounds lost I rewarded myself with a beautiful opal and pink sapphire ring. At the next (and final) 100 pounds lost I think I'll reward myself with a boob job. Ha!

I am wondering about how many lbs. between sizes.

I've NEVER been below a size 14. Yes, NEVER. Sad, but true. So finally, I am 19 lbs away from goal and guess what? I'm a freak'n size 14. I know I am happy to be here instead of my heaviest 254/size 18. But how much do I have to lose to get to a size 10? Ok a 6-8?

I'm an apple shape. Totally hate it, but my girth at my belly is not small, even at my smaller sized self, I carry most of my weight through my "trunk".

Any ideas anyone on weight to size ratio? I know it depends on your body type, but ... I asked on MFP too and a couple of my girlfriends told me it's like a 5 lb. difference between a 6 and an 8. Really? I had no idea! I've always been 14 and up. Then someone said at 160 they were a size 6. Is that on average?

Curious minds wanna know ... so if possible, educate me here pls!

I hold my weight mostly in my trunk. I knew a girl who was an apple and was 140 and a size 6, at 5'4. For me at 250 I was a size 20 in jeans, a size 18 at 210, then at 190-200 I was mostly a size 13/14 some brands a like Beyonces brand I was a 16, at Lane Bryant the 14/16 tops would go on but were kind of big. There is a size difference between juniors, womens, and misses. I wore 1x tops, but my boobs were still big so if I had like C or D cups I might have fit into something smaller. So for me every 20 or so pounds I went down in jeans. However its hard to break it down once the body is in the 160's or 150s because even a tiny loss can change a size. I googled the size I wanted to be and asked at what weight should I be, and it varied between 125-145 (at the time I wanted to be a 6.)

Thanks Kiki V (just like on that Adam Sandler movie "just go with it" lol). I'm gonna get there, slowly but surely! and if not well, I look and feel much better than before - for sure!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
