For Those Of You That Are At A Stall Early Out Of Surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok, So I am 3 1/2 weeks out. I have only lost just under 15 pounds since surgery. I have not lost anything since July 1. I actually went up 1.4 pounds. It is so depressing, but I know it will come off. I just compared 2 face picts of mine. The first was taken at Thanksgiving last year. The other was taken on July 4th. Even though I have only lost 15 pounds since surgery, if I look at the whole journey so far, I am glad to be where I am at today!

We will get there!

You do look amazing! I look at it this way - at least your down 15 and not up 15! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to more pics/updates on your progress.

Take care!

That is true because I probably would be up 15 again by now!

I started out pre surgery 220 and on my day of surgery I was 200. I was sleeved on may 15th and by June 15th I was 175.. but I am still at 175 as of this morning July 8th. I know not to be sad but the mind works on you and tells u this is it , no more weight loss. But with that being said I am definitely looking forward to that darn scale moving again so I can say aha! I told you so! ( to myself) lol

I'll be two weeks out as of tomorrow... I hate to be feeling this way already but week 1 (clear liquids) I lost 13. I weighed today (pureed since Monday) I've only lost 3 pounds. My doctor or NUT never talked to me about expected weight loss and I know that everyone is different but I was dieting 4 1/2 months prior to surgery and was losing about 3 pounds a week then! I'm hoping to jump start things once I'm allowed to work out and swim tomorrow!

This site is a saving grace and I don't feel like I'm going through this "alone." Thanks, everyone, for their support and positive words!

Well, I still haven't lost. I went on YouTube and watched videos of people stalling and I can see how far they have come now. It is inspiring!!

At about 3 weeks out, I stalled for 10 weeks. Maybe a little longer, I kinda lost track.

Just remember that it's normal, and it happens.

Anytime you have a big gain, or a big loss, and no real way to account for it -- it's Fluid. If it's Fluid, it's not fat, and who cares. :)

I will go crazy if I don't lose in 10 weeks.. that is 2 1/2 months! I really hope this doesn't happen to me.

It was frustrating. I understood what was happening fundamentally, but not in application. It still doesn't make sense. But it was something Fluid, because within about 2 weeks I'd dropped about 20 lbs. Fluids in the body are heavy. Heavier than plain Water, which is pretty heavy to begin with. Look at anyone who loses X pounds in their first week on the pre-op liquid diet. That's 99% fluid, and mostly from our livers. The glycogen itself is heavy, and it takes 6 - 10 lbs of water to get it moving. Look at how much people lose in their first two weeks. That's about 60% fluid. It's just insane, really.

Very informative! I feel better now, I have been at the same weight since June 15th... I fluctuate between 175 and 174... Somedays I could just scream but I know I'm following the plan and all I can do is keep trying... I'm smaller than when I started my journey but I'm still obese.. ill be happy to see my bmi say I'm over weight and then I pray normal!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
