The Band is not working for my daughter???

Recommended Posts

Mandy has had her band since March 23rd. She has only lost 22 lbs. I had lost 56 at that point. Should I be concerned? She started at 269. I started at 218 I feel so bad for her. :help:

I kept asking how much she has lost and she storied to me thats why my post said 35. She was worried about telling me she was not losing much. She has lost 22.

But how does SHE feel about things? Maybe she's not as upset about it as you are? That's the dangerous thing about trying to compare yourself against someone else. We're all different and will travel our journey at different paces.

If she's upset about it then encourage her to post on LBT too, there's lots of helpful posts that may give her some great ideas.

If she's not upset then tell her congrats on losing 22 pounds and let her travel her journey in her own way.

Good luck to you both!

Look at it this way ..she is 22 lbs lighter then she was in March. It could be worse she could be 22 lbs heavier then in March. 22 lbs since March is an average of 4 lbs a month, that is 1 lb a week..sounds good to me. We all know weight loss with the band is much slower then weight loss with the GB. Praise her. She is doing great! The band is working for your daughter, she is losing! Would she of lost 22 lbs since March without her band? Probably not or she woul of and would not of gotten the band right? You are just a concerned loving mother is all :D

Is she exercising and does she have good restriction? I was losing slowly until I found my sweet spot.

Like La_madam said... she is 22 pounds lighter than in March... that is just awesome!!!!

Slow and steady wins the race. I agree that if she is satisfied with her progress, that is all that should matter. If she isn't happy, however, she needs to keep in mind the band is just a tool. Tell her to look at her food choices. Are they the best ones she can be making? Is she keeping to a high protien lower carb diet? Has she been exercising?

Have her try keeping a food journal if she is feeling stumped.

Best of luck to you both.

I'd say leave her alone. She is old enough to do this on her own. 22 lbs is good. Okay I don't mean this in a mean way, but I am curious..why would you compete with your own daughter? If my mom kept asking me (that is what you said in another post) I'd never answer her. She prob feels bad that she is heavier than you and now you are telling her you are losing more weight than she has. 22 lbs is 4.4 lbs per month...that is right within the 1-2 lbs per week quota for the band. Crap I know this sounds mean, and I truly don't mean to be...but...leave her alone.

Concentrate on yourself....who is doing awesome by the way!!! You are averaging 11.2 lbs per month...that puts you on the higher end of the same quota at 2.8 lbs per month. Hey all in all she is averaging about only 1 lb less per week than you...so there you go, good news for her after all!

Whoops you were banded in December? okay doing the math again. you are losing an average of 7.37 per month which is 1.8 lbs per week...she is only a smidge behind you. Don't worry she will be just fine.

me again, I just looked at her pics...to see how old she is. She is beautiful, you must be so proud. hmm...remember too that she is taller than you and she has ...um, bigger um, boobs so she would be heavier than you even in the same size jeans. Ugh, this probably sounds so awful and I truly didn't intend it that way, I just wanted to point out to you that she is just fine, you are just fine, and you should not be concerned.

It might be as simple as your daughter just needing another fill. I think you both have done fantastic!

How wonderful that you two get to share this awesome journey together! I wish my mom would have done it with me, that would have been too cool. I think you both are doing great--just keep encouraging her, she'll get to her goal!

I kept asking how much she has lost and she storied to me thats why my post said 35. She was worried about telling me she was not losing much. She has lost 22.

Please, please, please stop doing that The last thing anyone who is trying to lose weight needs is someone continually asking them if they've lost or how much they've lost. Even if it's coming from a good place, it can't make her feel good. In fact it puts a lot of pressure on her that she doesn't need right now. It sounds like she is perfectly healthy, so unless that changes, you just have to step back and let her do this herself. Even though it makes you feel sad and helpless and you want to do something to help her, there really is nothing you *can* do but offer her your support and be there if or when she asks for help.

I do offer her support. I do not nag her about this. As far as the race is on. It was both our ideas. To keep each other on track. We do not do that anymore. I took this to the group because I am concerned. I have not told her that I am. Because I do not want her to feel bad, or worried. She is going to college and has enough to worry about. I let her bring it up and I try to support her in her effort. I ask what do you think you could change. She seems to be doing everything right. She has seizures and cannot exercise. Her blood pressure gets low.

Sounds to me like she's right on track. This just may be *her* speed for losing, which is different than yours.

If she is frustrated by it, maybe she should go in for a little tweak or something.

He does not want to fill her band up to quick.

She is concerned but I try not to make it a big deal.

I told her it put years to put on. It will take a while to come off. She was homecoming duchess. She has great self esteem. She is smart and popular I am so proud of her. Please do not make any Judgements. I was looking for support on how to help my daughter. It is a subject I will talk about if she brings up. I rarely bring it up. But I did not know what to tell her when she does. We are very close. She knows I have been very ill for years and she is my Rock .I just want to be hers if she needs one.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
