I was told after 3 months... I miss my Jack Daniels on the rocks with a good cigar while sitting on my balcony!

I like the three months answer lol. I wonder what my doc will say? We collect wine and I must admit I enjoy it....especially tastings and I have been worried I'd never get to see it again. I actually chose the sleeve because you can eventually drink where as with a gb it's a huge challenge. Friends of ours just had the bypass and while she is doing fab (down 100 in six months) she is very disappointed she cANt really enjoy wine anymore and likely never will due to dumping. :(

My hubby and I were sleeved, he is not a drinker, i am a social drinker. He said that in his last class with the NUT someone said that they took 1 sip of wine and had to be helped home. The NUT also said that you have a higher risk of addiction when you are sleeved. i told him it that the research I did said that was because people trade one addiction (food) for another and i really don't think that will be me! I just REALLY would like a nice margarita dammit, LOL. Any suggestions would be welcome....anyone know anyone that turned into an alcoholic after the sleeve??

One drink is usually enough for me. Two just makes me a little sick and adds no benefit in buzz factor. Started drinking again at 6 months or so and have on average two drinks a month. Really just had them when out with wife for dinner or on weekend chilling out with bro. I had my last drink about 2 months ago, just don't have the desire any longer because it does not really offer any health benefits ( at least for the hard drinks I had like Long Island or even fine white wine). I don't know, I just lost the desire for it. Maybe it will come back, maybe it will not. It was kind of a waste to get buzzed for like 2 minutes only. I want to eat and drink foods that are going to contribute to optimal health. Unfortunately, alcohol is not one of them. Just my opinion.

I had glass of wine with my wife and got buzzed. However, it went away just s quickly as it started.

Definitely. I used to have to drink a lot to get drunk, and now because of my sleeve I don't think about the fact that I've lost weight. I've gotten dangerously drunk on two occasions post-op. The worst part is that the liquid goes through you so fast, that when your body is trying to make you throw up from too much, there's nothing for you to throw up because your tummy is so small. You feel miserable.

Pace yourself if you plan on drinking. I found with me, sometimes, the alcohol can hit you harder later. Hence why I need to pace myself very cautiously. Everyone is different.

My mother had the bypass done and became an alcoholic shortly after. She did lose a huge amount of wait but it was a hard struggle for her. I just started the process and when my husband & I decided this was the way we were going to go that was one of our biggest concerns. I am not a huge drinker at all. Actually the only time I really do drink is on our monthly date night( we have 3 kids). We have already talked about how that will be the number thing that we want to keep an eye on afterwards. But we have also joked about it too. " our date nights will be a whole lot cheaper now". You just need to listen to your doctor and make sure your support team( my husband) is there to pull you back in when it seems to be becoming a problem. You should know your limits.

Same here - doc said I could have wine 1 month post op. I am a social drinker, have consistently lost weight since my surgery date: 4/23/13. No stalls, drinking socially has not prevented me from losing, and I have the same tolerance as before I was sleeved.

I became an alcoholic after the sleeve. Started with wine OCC. at 4 months out and by 11 months I was up to 2 1/2 bottles a day. One half box worth. Occ. got drunk ratherwise just loved the feeling drinking. Took a nap on the couch in the evening. I was a mess. Had enough stopped cold turkey Feb. 5th 2013. I occ. will take L-glutamine if I have cravings, works well. You can become a drunk quickly, never thought I would.

Yes, One drink and I am pretty drunk.

The good thing is all I have to do is eat some Protein and I am sober immediately. I don't really like that drunk feeling. I will usually eat something fairly quickly to get rid of that feeling.

The alcohol is getting dumped into your bloodstream much quickly because our tummies are so tiny.

My hubby has a bypass. Half a glass of wine' date=' and he is drunk. Is this true for sleeves as well?[/quote']

Not for me. I do get a buzz with less, but I'm more than 100 lbs lighter, so I'm not really surprised by that. I drink 1-2 drinks once or twice per week since I've been at goal.

I was cleared for that amount at 6 months.

I only can have a glass or 2 of wine at a time but I don't get drunk at all. I see no difference for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
