What do you do for pain?

Recommended Posts

I was told not to take NSAIDS (asprin, ibuprofin.) Instead to take tylenol. I have headaches and terrible heel pain from exercising a 300+ pound frame with heel spurs...any suggestions?:sick

I would only take NSAIDs for inflammatory pain, sometimes i might pop Nurofen if my ankle gets bad, or for a pulled muscle or something. But then I wasnt told not to take them. But they're not something I'd take all the time anyway, they can be risky. Normally for mild pain and for fever I'd take Panadol which is paracetamol.

I dont think I've had aspirin since I was a child.

The tylenol works fine for me. In fact, I have been using the adult liquid tylenol and found it actually works faster than the pill form. My hubby didn't believe me until he tried it one day and was very surprised at how quick it worked.

I cry...I just curl up in a little ball, stick my thumb in my mouth and cry.

I have RA and Gout, so there is a lot of days with a lot of pain. I've learned that a little quiet time in a dark room goes a long way. For headaches, I don't think that will work. I used to chew aspergum with success when I worked stressful jobs and would get serious screaming blinding headaches (I was an audio engineer and having a headache with headphones on sucks).

So sorry you are in such misery. The reason for saying NO to NSAIDS is that they remain in your tummy and can irritate it, but on the other hand I am allowed to take Celebrex for my arthritis because it is time released. You need to check with your surgeon to find out what is approved and not approved. The Celebrex keeps everything in check for me, and I don't know what I would do without it, but please check with your surgeon as they all seem to have a different opinion on NSAIDS in any form. I haven't had any problems yet with taking any medications.

I have Darvocet on hand at all times for headaches. This is what my dr. recommended when they really get bad. It is Tylenol based and does the trick for me.

Hope you get to feeling better.

I take a mix of children's 6 chewable aspirins and 6 children's chewable acetaminophen (tylenol), neither med in any form works well for my bad headaches alone. I drink Water afterward to wash them from my pouch. So far so good. Prebanding I was an exedrin junkie. (Extra strength Exedrin is aspirin, acetaminophen, and caffiene.)

I have psoriatic arthritis, which is similar to RA, and I was taking naproxyn prior to surgery. My surgeon said to continue the naproxyn, but added a soluble prevacid to counteract any problems the NSAID may cause. Hope that may help.

Have you tried anything topical for your heels or head? I started using ActivOn for elbow pain from using the mouse too much. I like it because there is absolutely NO ODOR. I understand there is a HeadOn product too for headaches that might be worth a try. I plan on getting some since my options have dwindled since being banded.

Good luck!

Tylenol actually puts out several different types of their medication in liquid form now. I found it and bought some to have on hand. I found the regular Extra Strength Tylenol, and a Tylenol PM, although I found when I used this I had my first experience with Reflux...yuck! May have been coincidental, but not going to use it just prior to bed again, will give it awhile next time. I also found a Tylenol Cold in liquid form. I bought it figuring if and when I need it, I won't feel like going out and hunting to find some to buy. I have used the regular for headaches, but not often. I used to only take Advil Cold & Sinus for headaches, so I was thinking the Tylenol Cold may be similar. It seems most of my headaches are sinus related.

Good Luck finding pain relief!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
