Kato - The way clothes fit is telling--even if the scale is not! Congratulations!

Janey - Thanks for the encouragement and for sharing the turkey. I'm still on cloud 9. Kudos to you for being "only" obese! I can't wait to join you.

Marz 88,

I can eat 2-3+ cups without any problem. I wonder what amount we should eat to be at the optimal fill level? Anyone know?

I think the a perosn's optimal fill level is based on each individual and their eating habits. (Doesn't it always seem to be that way with the band?)

I like being able to eat a "normal" size portion and take bites that are more normal size. From what I read on LBT I also like less restriction than most. I want to comfortably get in 1200-1600 calories a day w/o having to drink calories. I am tight in the morning but by dinner can eat 2-3 cups of food still fits into my nutritional goals.

My problem was eating too much at meals--Way Too Much! So even if I am eating 2-3 cups of food at dinner or even lunch, it is much less than I could before. As long as I make healthy choices an don't eat again until I am hungry, having a little less restriction is working for me.

I have a friend who is a grazer, doesn't make the best food choices and tends to eat around her band. She struggles to lose so our doctor gave her a pretty agressive fill last time so to help her break those bad habbits.

I log my food every day and I check other peoples food journals to compare and make sure I'm keeping on track.

Hope this helps.

I never feel any difference from morning or evening. I also know I gulp down Water with no problem...I think I need more restriction. I also have not lost any weight in two weeks.

Hey my May peeps!

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I am still hanging on over here. My weight this morning was still 233 so I haven't lost any since last week but I also haven't gained! Hubby is out of the hospital so I'm planning on hitting the gym again hard this week and getting back on track with that. Good news though! I am wearing size 18 pants today and they are comfy!! Yeah!!

Ok just checking in, I have lost a couple of pounds since my last post. But I found out something a little disturbing on my liast visit to the doctor. I am at capacity for my fills. What's next? I just have to continue to watch what I eat. But what happens when I hit a plateau and can not loose anymore!

You were banded in May and are filled to capacity already? WOW! Do you have restriction? What does the doc say he will do if you lose restriction?

Well there isn't anything he can do if I am at capacity. I don't feel like i am starving but I think I could have more restriction. I am still doing well, just concerned what happens if I loose the restriction I have.:phanvan

Me, too. I go on Wednesday to get my third fill. I hope we both get to the 'sweet' spot. I have some trouble with eggs but not lettuce. If I chew well and take my time I can eat 2+ cups with no problem. I just don't let myself usually...too scared I'll gain weight back. So good luck to you...report back on how it goes.

According to the Golden Rules, you are suppose to eat 3-4oz (that's 1/2C and you know that some of that is going to pass through the band into the lower part of the stomach, so 1C is probably more like it. Ha ha ha rofl!!! And stop when you feel full. But I have rarely felt full! I thought I was probably the only one who could still eat like a glutton. And you guys are right, 2-3 cups is less than I would have normally eaten.

So, today I went for my 4th fill. (I only lost 8lbs in six weeks, that was depressing). I was given another full cc which brings me to 8cc in a 12cc band. The thought of maxing out on fills scares me. I figured that I'd feel a little more restriction but I don't. I have another 5 weeks before my next fill. I might be able to get in a little earlier if it isn't working for me. So we'll see how things go this week and I have to pull myself out of my pity party and quit the comfort foods. And thanks to everyone for your input and advice.

Marz,

I'm able to eat more like you I think. I don't worry about too much just stop when I feel full. Seems to last a very long time which is why I think I'm losing. I don't feel restriction whatsoever... unless I'm nuts and just don't notice? I only had one fill so far and doc says he won't do more unless I really feel I need it. I'm on an 18 month schedule and he and my other docs are very happy with my progress. I wish I was futher along but, I figure I'll let the band do its job and keep trying to get off my rear and move more. Slow like a turtle and I'm ok with it so far. Hair loss has started and I'm not happy with that at all. I do have gas issues sometimes so I think I must be eating too fast? Or maybe its the type of food? All I know is I'm fitting into clothes I have not been able to wear for sometime and I'm good with that! Looking forward, but not too far.

Everyime I'm on here and read about the great successes I feel inspired and I thank all of you for that. Any advice on the hair and gas would be appreciated.

Hope all are well and keep up the good work!

Hello Everyone!!!!! My 2nd fill is only 3 days away. I am sooooo ready! I can pretty much eat as much as I want. The only thing I can't eat is bread. And meat I have to chew well. But I can keep on eating if I want. Eat and eat and eat. When I still felt restriction, I couldn't do that. So I know that I need my next fill.

But better news! I have a new daughter!!!! My son and his girlfriend got married down at the courthouse today. They will have a formal wedding in June, but thier ceremony today was very touching. They are so cute. Here's the happy couple, Mr. and Mrs. Tyler and Sarah Young......

wedding02.jpg

We went out to one of the nicer restaurants for dinner after the wedding and she told me, "now I have to go home and practice writing my new name!" I laughed. I think she's going to find that this short but sweet ceremony a whole lot less stressful than the big do they are planning in June. For a gift today, I gave her a wedding planner. I told her she will be lost without it soon.

Anyway, that was my happy day today.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
