6 MOs out - Anyone have this happen?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am almost 6 months post op and have been having pain at and around my port site. Kinda stabbing sharp pains, a lot like the first few weeks following surgery. It happens between 3 and 8 times a day and goes away fairly quickly, but it's been going on for about a week now.

Has anyone else had this happen?

It's starting to make me nervous.

Donna, I would suggest calling your doc since it's so frequent and I'm sure scary - I actually get pains around my port if I eat too much and while they are sort of like you describe, i don't want you taking any chances on maybe something more serious. Good luck and i'm sure others will have better suggestions.

I'm almost 6 months out and I am just recently feeling my port inside me. I don't feel anything like you're describing though. I think I'm feeling mine because I have lost enough weight to make it more pronounced. Do you think this your situation too? Either way, I think you should mention it to your Doc as well. Good luck and I hope you feel better!

Interesting. My first thought is that it could be the muscles where the port is attached adjusting to your weight loss. I know that is why I felt so much pain initially after surgery (in the port area).

Interestingly, yes about a three weeks ago I had an episode of quite concerning pains which lasted about a week, it was after my fill, so I kind of put it down to that but by the end of 5 or 6 days I was starting to be a little concerned. Also one night I was woken out of sleep by a really awful stomach ache, a really deep one which I knew was my band, I wondered if it was reflux, it could have been such an intense burn that it felt like an ache iykwim. I sat up for a while, tried to go back to sleep but it wouldnt go away until I ate a carton of yogurt.

However, now you mention it again I realise its all just stopped, no more stomach ache, no more stabbing port pains. Just one of those things I guess, if it hangs around I'd see your doc but I suspect stuff like that just happens with no real explanation.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
