Wanting To Eat Forbidden Food Before Surgery!

Recommended Posts

I was a Diet Pepsi addict before surgery. Have not had any since and don't want any! Your taste buds and cravings will definitely change.

Thanx everyone! I got a good chuckle off of the term "food funeral". That's exactly what it is! You're right, I need to program my mind that I will be able to eat just about everything prior to...just in moderation (or 2 bites). However, eating at the Golden Corral Buffet is out... lol

Tex, It's a no no after surgery, but I do drink some diet Decaf soda. I have a case that I opened around the end of May. I keep it out of the fridge, but sometimes yes, I do drink one over ice. It's NOT a trigger or slider food for me now. If it caused me to want other sweets, etc. then I wouldn't have it. I did wait until I was 4 months out before I had one, though.

LOL All I gotta say is if it's diet and decaf then what's the point? I used to drink Diet Decaf Pepsi and liked it - for some reason I started back in on Dr Pepper and Pepsi and now just love it so right now I made a lemonade crystal light and gotta get used to that

I am in a "food funeral" frenzy and it is not helping that my surgery had to change from july 6 to july 19. I am acting like each meal.is my last and giving myself permission for anything. I scare myself and have fears that all foods will be sliders for me. Does anyone else see food as an enemy and not a friend?

I ate anything and everything I love right up until my two week preop diet started. It was kinda like having my last meal over and over. Amazingly, I didn't gain weight. On my 2 week preop diet I lost 14 pounds. Since surgery 9 days ago, I've lost another 10.

I was doing so well. I had lost 9 pounds since starting on my own, before I even had a surgery date. I got my date at my last NUT appointment today, and I went crazy after. I ate 2 chocolate eclairs on the way home, then ordered a pizza. WTH?

I did exact what you are doing. And I'm glad I did. As far as seeing food as the enemy, no, I see it as more of a burden for now. My body needs its nourishment, but I could easily go without eating otherwise. I see ppl eating things I loved a few weeks ago and think " you are killing yourself". I still get cravings but they are so much easier to overcome. All I do is look at th price and think, "no way I'm paying $8 for a dish that's 1/2 rice or potato" not to mention portion sizes seem so huge to me now, I'd be eating 1 restaurant meal for 1.5 days & that's if I ate nothing else. YUCK!!! Can you imagine eating the same thing over & over.

I LOVE eating out and I actually like that I have 2 days left overs when I go out now, lol. I will get a chicken dish usually, and eat it for lunch and dinner then next day or two and love it. I cant bring myself to order anything Pasta now though, knowing how much I love it but that its all going to go to waste. Ive found that restaurants are really good about putting things on the side and specializing your order for you.

I am hoping people don't start looking at me weird when I order off the kids menu :) I am out and about alot and often have dinners or Snacks at bike nites so .... besides not being able to drink soda anymore I will not eat out much either.

food Funeral is a good term....I used my "Last Suppers"...I went out with each and every sibling, parent, and friend that I have regular lunches or dinners with...My brother in law made me my all time favorite disk chicken and potatoes and peppers and OMG I am sure this was NOT on the list of foods acceptable everything deep fat fried the Mexican way which of course makes it much better than anything else in this universe....(he's an awesome cook), I Had steak dinner with my folks, I went to Algodones and had a meal with my sister, had Breakfast burrito's homemade by the mexican ladies of the church, and pizza and salad with my brother, and chinese with my friends from Burns who winter in California, and well my list goes on and on and on....

When I got back home from Surgery....The preacher began his 2 month preaching from the book of I Cor.....this was indeed just what the doctor ordered. I Cor 6:12 "EVERYTHING IS PERMISSABLE, BUT EVERYTHING IS NOT BENEFICIAL".....now I am sure there was a different message for most with this verse...but it hit me hard and I began to love this verse....In fact I have it posted on my refridgerater....

Yes I can have a brownie (it is permissable) But that brownie is NOT beneficial....

Yes I can have a soda (it is permissable) but that soda could do damage to my new pouch I paid $9000 for so not so beneficial...

I hope this helps

The more I read the more I'm convinced some of you are living in my head!! I have also been thinking about my "last days" of normal eating and what foods do I want to have one last time? food funeral is the perfect way to describe it. I am hoping my taste buds change and I won't want the crap that got me where I am now!

I like food funeral. Before I started my preop, I felt like I was on death row having my final meals. Yes, I can still have my favorite foods but I will never be able to shovel them like I did preop.....thank God!

I ordered some of this off Walmart and liked it so much I used quite a bit of it already so ordering more tonite - got the chocolate and the vanilla so far but this one sounds best of all. On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
