Pre-Op Diet Day 1- Ugh! :(

Ok, this is WAY harder than I initially anticipated! :( Here's my diet..

1) DRINK 4-5 SERVINGS OF A liquid Protein

Meal Replacement DAILY:

(Choose from the following)

Bariatric Advantage, CHIKE, BARIATRX ESSENTIALS, unjury,

EAS MYOPLEX LITE or GNC TOTAL LEAN shake 25

Powdered mixes may be mixed with skim milk or soy milk.

2) IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, CONSUME 64 OZ.

sugar-free FLUIDS DAILY:

Water

CRYSTAL LIGHT (OR OTHER FLAVORED WATERS)

sugar free Jello

LOW SODIUM broth

SUGAR FREE POPSICLES

So far today I have only had the 3 protein shakes/drinks and I don't think I can stomach another one! :( YUCK! I am feeling discouraged and mentally weak. I am really hoping and praying that this will get easier sometime in the next few days. Tomorrow I go in for my EGD. This is sad to say but I am looking forward to being put under so I don't feel the hunger pains! LOL! :P I talked my husband into doing the pre-op diet with me so that I wouldn't feel alone.. That does help having someone to complain to that feels my pain! ;)

How is everyone else making it out there??

I have a suggested menu from my NUT but I've kind of just been going by how I'm feeling. Like if I'm in the mood for something sweet I'll do a shake or jello but if I want savory I'll have some veggie

Did you try the Unjury? I don't really like too many of the shakes out there, but I do like unjury mixed with skim milk. It tastes like chocolate milk and doesn't have a bad after taste. Hang in there!

I just got some chake samples but have not tried them out...they have orange and bannana...mmmmm, or at least I hope "mmmmm".

I'm on day 2. I have a very similar diet to yours except I can only have 2 protien shakes a day and I'm allowed up to 3 servings of yogurt, sf pudding, or cottage cheese (blech!). When is your surgery date? I'm July 3rd so my liquid diet is 3 weeks.

I'm going through a pretty wide range of emotions so far and this evening I'm feeling pretty defeated and loser-ish. I'm right there with you on the feeling discouraged and mentally weak front, too :(. I definitely didn't drink enough fluids today. Its almost like I feel less hungry if I don't open my mouth at all lol.

I also woke up with a terrible cold today which isn't helping matters. My husband offered to do the diet with me and yesterday we realized maybe he shouldn't so at least one of us is with it enough to handle our 2 very energetic children lol

As for protien shakes, I've been doing the RTD Muscle Milk light from Costco. It tastes ok and it's easy to just throw into a cooler bag and run out the door. I think I might get a container of the Jay Robb too. I didn't like the kind you have to mix because I couldn't seem to get all the lumps out, but it was thinner than the RTD stuff (I've heard this is better post op) and if you mix the Jay Robb whey protien with milk and ice it tastes like chocolate milk.

Injury chocolate is great. Add a little extra milk to cut down on the sweetness! Good luck...it doesn't get any better after surgery tho, I'm 2 weeks out and am still craving some real food!

The first 48 hours are the hardest. Does any one have a menu they are following?

What flavor of the Unjury are you liking?

That's so funny that you said that because half way through the day my husband and I were both like, "Ok you get up and get the baby's bottle... Ok YOU give the other one her bath.." We were so DRAINED and weak... My husband right before bed said, "Maybe it's not a good idea for BOTH of us to be doing this.. Someone has to have the energy to deal with the kids.." LOL

Hang in there. I promise it does get easier. After a few days, I started feeling amazing.

Yes! Hahaha! How long is your liquid diet? My husband said he was reading about doing a diet like this and your body is supposed get used to not burning carbs and switch over to burning the glycogen off of your liver. I'm somewhat skeptical of this, but hoping he's right. We have play group, 2 separate appointments and swimming lessons tomorrow so I have to buck up :/ Do you have any help with you little one?

I like the chocolate spledor.
