It's hard to believe it's been over 6 weeks already! It still feels surreal that I went to Mexico, that I flew on a plane and that I had this surgery. I am down 34.6 lbs. I've already gone from a size 22 jeans to a size 20. My starting weight was 242.2 lbs. That was the heaviest I had ever been. I was in denial for a long time that I was really that obese. I didn't have any health problems, so I didn't worry too much. However, my habits were starting to rub off on my 5 year old daughter and the light bulb went off. It was time for a change. I tried Weight Watchers for the umpteenth time. I think all of you know how that goes lol. Well, long story short I was fed up and finally made the decision to have surgery. I did lots and lots of research and decided on Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. Everything went great! My experience was pleasant. I never felt unsafe. I battled a lot of emotions for the first few weeks, but I feel pretty good about everything now. :) I'm starting to get compliments and that's awesome! To anyone pre-op, it's worth it!! Thanks for reading!

I love reading posts like yours. I don't respond alot just alot of reading. I will be sleeved by Dr. Almanza on July 9th in TJ and it just doesn't seem real yet.

I was first told that my insurance would cover the sleeve and done all the appointments to have it done and when it was time to schedule the surgery the insurance came back and said it was an exclusion on my policy. I felt so crushed... to be so close and then nothing. I had felt the whole time that it was too good to be true and then it was.

I would have never considered Mexico, I was just like everyone else, when you hear Mexico you automatically think Dangerous, Unsterile ect..... Then a friend of mine and her daughter went and came back and said they would do in again in a second. They are 2 months out now and are doing great. I started reading this forum and felt so much more at ease. I feel like I have no worries at all. I'm just ready to do it!!!!

I guess I still have that feeling that it is too good to be true. I recieved my passport in the mail about a week ago, I purchased my plane tickets and I will be calling and paying my deposit today. It should seem real but it really doesn't yet. Did you feel this way, am I just being silly?

yes i felt that way! lol i also tried the insurance route about 4 years ago. i was thinking lapband at the time but insurance would only cover the first $10,000. things won't seem "real" until sometime after surgery. the weight will come off and you'll realize the sleeve was the best choice you could have made! good luck!

i still have some food restrictions. i eat cheese and lunchmeat, regular oatmeal, baked Beans, peas. pretty much anything soft. i like variety so i don't have a strict food routine. i am not exercising yet, however, my job keeps me pretty active throughout the day. i plan on starting a walking routine soon. i've been sick so i've been set back a little.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
