My surgeon suggested that I quit but didn't demand it.

  • Souled, It is a vice you must give up. Smoking, especially after VST, impedes healing of the sleeve, makes skin reabsorption more difficult, and can cause ulcers in our sleeves. Drop them now. It's to

I cant say enough about quitnet. com for people trying to quit. There is no charge for the basic and my understanding is that many states and canada pay for a premium membership. It is a lot like this site. The community is amazing. I dont think I would be quit for 5 months without them. I was a hard core smoker and at first decided that after the surgery I would start smoking again. Now I can honestly say I will never light another one. I love how I feel now, cant wait to see how its gonna be once I lose this weight!

My surgeon required me to quit. I'm on day 12 of no smoking. It hasn't been easy, and smoking is on my mind a lot. I'm using the patch...and Charms suckers, lol. My husband also quit to support me.

My surgeon told me that besides the healing issues, that smoking also makes you prone to stomached ulcers and having ulcers in a stomache the size of a banana is not a good thing.

Way to go girls!!! I'm proud of those of us that have quit. And I was hard core too - I really enjoyed smoking. But heck, I haven't had one for the OAS three days - why start back up? It doesn't even sound good to me

I don't smoke, but I will just pass along that my doctor told our pre-admissions class that they test for nicotine in the blood and urine on the morning of surgery. I kind of thought, That seems a bit extreme. I bet they don't really do it, it's just a scare tactic. I tend to be a bit skeptical, heh. Anyway, sure enough, I went to the hospital on the morning of surgery and the admissions staff confirmed I had orders for blood and urine samples, specifically to test for drugs, alcohol and tobacco/nicotine.

I will say this - my surgeon took very, very great pride in his work and didn't look too kindly on increased chance of complication due to smoking when we were given clear expectations to quit. Whether it's because your surgeon cares about you, or cares about his stats,... if they say no, they don't mess around!

Congratulations to all of you quiters! I know is not easy, but you are loving yourself and becoming healthier even before loosing weight. Keep up the good work!

4 weeks smoke free!!! Bought a box (14 ea) of med strength nicotine patches last month and used one when I needed it only! I still have 4 left. I also bought the elec cig. I puff on it maybe once or twice a week when stressed!!! I still LOVE to stand beside someone who is smoking though....so the urge hasn't completly left me just yet!!!
