I am now 4 months post op and is noticing hair loss in clumps... I have stopped brushing my hair until I need to and have been wearing it in a ponytail everyday because when my hair is down I lose much more of it. Has anyone tried Keratin products or products on this website http://www.justnaturalskincare.com/hair/loos-shampoo.html

Its not noticeable yet but I was down to one Protein shake a day and now I increased it to two just incase im not getting enough Protein in. I have also been taking Biotin for the last 2 months everyday.

I changed over to main and tail Shampoo because it promotes stronger healthier hair...

What can I do to stop this?

Im freaking out!

I'm in the exact same spot. It's so frustrating.

I'm five months out and (knock on wood) I feel like its starting to slow down. I had a lot of hair to start out with, but hubby says its noticeable up front and a little bit in back.

I was told to NOT wear hair in ponytails, because this stresses out your hair more. the hair is going to be lost whether its in a ponytail or not, its dead/dying.

I was also told by nut to brush it actually as often as possible, because that encourages blood flow to your scalp and stimulates hair regrowth. I am using Nioxin products, but not sure if they are helping or not. I also am taking a Biotin supplement and try to always get in my 60-80 g of Protein a day. I think we just have to wait it out.

New hair is already growing in and i hate the fuzziness, but at least I know its coming back!

You can't do anything to stop what you're already losing, but the Protein & Biotin will help with regrowth. The loss is because of the shock to the system of major surgery & the rapid weight loss, it just takes a few months to start falling out.

as a hairdresser, Nioxin is wonderful for thinning hair. I use it on my elder clients whose hair is coming out and it helps slow it down and also promotes new Hair growth. Take your Vitamins and make sure you get your Protein. These are vital for healthy hair. Hope this helps!

Someone told me to to scramble an egg with some canolia oil and massage it into my scalp and leave it on for awhile... But to rise it out with cold Water because hot water will start to cook the egg... It just sounds disturbing...

I would definitely avoid pony tail holders, hair clips and hats, that is too stressful on the hair. Make sure get your Protein, drink your Water, and if you aren't worried about having your hair one length, get your hair trimmed with a few layers and it will look a little more full and it should slow down eventually. I'm sorry this is happening.

I have baby fine hair down to my shoulders and if worse comes to worse, I'm going to go for a pixie.

Do you think cutting it will help? My hair is down to about my bra strap and it is thin... I can cut it shoulder length and wouldnt mind... I will do anything to make it stop!

Discuss with your hair dresser that you are having a reaction after surgery and you need your hair trimmed up to get the dead ends off, but to be careful on the sides not to layer it too much. Tell her you want it to look thicker and healthier. Hair grows at about 1/2 inch per month usually, for some people it grows faster, some slower. The damage at 5 months is probably 3 inches from your scalp.

If you notice when you get really sick or change medicine sometimes your fingernails will get all weird and wavy a month or so down the road because the damage usually occurs before it grows out of your nail bed.

Since I have been on lots of medicines and have had several surgeries and I get sick a lot, I find this Hair loss to happen to me a lot and sometimes a trim will help slow down any breakage.

Getting in as much Protein as you can is the first step. I am happy that I've had only minor thinning (my husband says I don't look any different). I get in 85-100g of protein on most days, 50-65g on my "bad" days. Also, what/how you ate 2-3 months ago has more of an affect on your Hair loss today. That is if you weren't getting enough protein right after surgery for a prolonged period, that may explain your loss now. So if you correct that now, you may not see regrowth for a few more months. That's how it was explained to me. My cousin is a stylist and she tells me that Nioxin products can help, but it's mostly what's going on on the inside that affects your hair.< /p>

Nioxin comes in three levels according to your hair. ( color treated, fine/thinning, dry/brittle,etc) You can buy these at Walmart, target and I have even seen them at sam's club. I can't tell you if they are cheaper b/c I personally think you should buy professional hair and skin products from salons with professionals. The Shampoo and conditioner I use is a big bottle(32oz). It retails at our salon for 35-40.00 depending on sales. It lasts clients who shampoo 2-3x week with it about 4-6mo.

What other form of protein you recommend besides the shakes? I'm having a hard time drinking them.

At the beginning I struggled so bad with Protein shakes! I mean I tried EVERYTHING! And it was ALL nasty... until I found the nectar line made by Syntrax... AMAZING! That is the only thing I can drink!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
