aarrrrhhhh, I would feel ever so much more positive about the whole experience if I hadn't gained .8 pounds between yesterday and today on the pre-op diet (protein drinks all day and a dinner of approximately 350 calories....). The last time I seriously dieted, was optifast--lost 17 lbs the first week and then 2 lbs in the next EIGHT weeks while maintaining a steady 800 calories a day. (okay, I admit it, I don't exercise), I figure my body thought I was in a coma and shut down the metabolism completely. So, wasn't expecting much with the preop.....finally hit 10 pounds after about 1.5 weeks but to GO BACKWARD (YES, I know it is probably Water weight, but STILLLLL.......).

anyone else GAINING weight on the pre -op?

cross posted in the August 13th Sleeve Group and on the FB page:

okay, I am an organizer of sorts. So, the August 13thers (and the slightly before and slightly after) who are in Tijuana......I believe at least two/three of the docs use the Marriott. I am traveling alone so by Wednesday, I will be stir crazy for someone to talk to. Who else is gonna be at the Marriott? Let's pm each other and get something going!!! I think a conga line dance around the yummy buffet that we can't enjoy will be a good start. :P :P

Oh girlie give yourself a break! Don't weigh yourself every day! I only lost 8ish lbs on preop, and I've seen others lose upwards of 15-20.

Wait a few days, weight again, and I'm positive you will see different results :)

Today is the day. Driving from LA to Tijuana now -- 134 miles to go.

This scripture was the focus of my devotion today! :)

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)

Please keep me in your prayers. May God be with everyone who is having surgery today or is recovering from surgery.

Don't know what I would do without you guys!

Lara

Thank you for sharing that wonderful verse. I just said some prayers for you. Keep us posted!

Well Surgery was yesterday, I survived, sleep last night, and walking today I survived. Some minor gas pains in tummy area nothing that can't be handled. This surgery went off without a hitch and truly was a breeze. Of course I have already had so many pointers from SweetSusie who went in July, and then Allnewme and Icandothis 2 and 4 days ago, so I had a great idea of what to expect.

I just got startled a moment ago by the dentist and ended up hurting my tummy, and Jessica was so nice she went to get me some pain meds. My next goal is just waiting to be discharged tomorrow so I get home to my own bed and environment.

Anyone battling worries, fear, etc over this surgery, please do try to relax. I've had nothing but a great experience. No nausea, no heaves, very very little pain etc. Could not have been any better.

I will be traveling alone, and I am naturally very apprehensive. Guess I will just have to suck it up and wear my big girl panties. I am thrilled to be active here instead of a lurker.

I would SO go with you if I could!!! Just so you dont have to be alone...but remember, you are never alone as we are all here with you! :)

So for those who have been sleeved already this month, where are you at in your liquid intake? Even with sip, sip, sipping I feel like I'm always falling a little short of the goals the clinic set for myself.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
