Hello ladies. I was sleeved on Thursday. Surgery went fine. I was in a lot of pain afterwards that was not very well controlled for awhile after. :-/

I was unable to keep down sips of anything or ice chips until late this morning. Trust me dry heaves after being sleeved Is incredibly painful. I've been able to do some walking. Every day is a little better. First day was rough!

I'm glad that you are feeling better!!

@Ramona1019 - I am an 8/6 band to sleeve revision. Glad you found the preop wasn't hard. By day 7 I found myself starting to think the 2nd week would never ever end. But now here we just 2 days away. Wishing you the best of luck w/ your journey and hope we can share our successes along the way!!

@loleata I understand the concerns. It's perfectly natural for our nerves and 2nd guesses to get the best of us. I don't know much about the self mutilation issue, but as far as what sort of example you are setting...well, I think there is a lot to be said for being able to admit that this is something you need help with. I've spent the last few weeks addressing the shame feelings. I look around at my life and think things are pretty damn good. But the one area that I have been unable to master long term is my weight. I'm great at losing weight, but keeping it off is another story. I can't say if this is the right decision for you, only you know what is best. I hope that your nerves settle down and that you feel good about whichever route you take.

Loleata- I think all of us go thru these same questions or similar ones when trying to decide if this is right for you. I can't tell you how to feel but I can share my thoughts for me. Obesity is a disease just like alcoholism, diabetes, or anything else. If I didn't treat this disease the best way I can then wouldn't it be abusive to what god gave me? He wants me to live a full life and if this treatment plan is going to do it then so be it.

As for if I am ready to do this, and have I really tried everything. Well I've been overweight for 20 years and been on about a zillion diets. And yeah I've lost but I've also gained it all back too many times to count. This is going to help me KEEP it off. I think your sister is going to see someone that is strong enough to take action to change! This is not easy. There are going to be rough Patches and you r still going to have to do the work to make it successful. So I think she will b proud of you! Goodluck!!

Hey all I am being sleeved August the 10th by Dr. Hata in Hickory, NC. I am glad I found this because I am on day of four of my ten day liquid pre-op diet and I am struggling!! I am trying to think of it as one day at a time but, thinking I have six more days of this feels like an eternity to me right now.

My surgery is 3 days away and I can't sleep at all. I'm very nervous and starting to have second thoughts... I keep asking myself: How am I Christian if this is considered self mutilation? What if I have complications? What if I can do this on my own? What example am I setting for my 12 year old sister by doing this? I'm also thinking... I have no self control and don't know how it got me to such an extreme.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, it is just fear and guilt affecting you, and we know that God loves us as individuals far more than we can ever even imagine, and His love is not about fear, and He is not an accuser. I think it is perfectly normal to have second thoughts, because all of us want to be able to do this without assistance. One thing I think God wants us to learn is that we can't overcome obstacles all alone, and every single person has his or her own set of issues and needs help and support for them. food and how it affects our bodies just happen to be ours. As far as self-mutilation is concerned, I am fairly confident He is referring the ancient practice of marking oneself to identify with a pagan deity, which I am fairly certain you are not trying to do. ;) ((((HUGS)))

@Mom_24: What you just said about God not wanting us to overcome obstacles alone is so true. Having faith is so important.

Hi All,

Had surgery 8/1 and all went very well except spent extra night due to a slow heart rate caused by anesthesia. They used lidocaine in abdominal wall to minimize tenderness but think it affected Vegal nerve and my HR got pretty low. I do not remember anything from being wheeled out of pre/op till I woke in room. Pain minimal and well controlled. Everything everyone said is absolutely true!!

WALK/ USE GASX/ GO slow .... Tiny sips... I have had zero nausea...didn't need any fancy mouth stuff just brush teeth and rinse a lot. sleep when you can. For me most of the discomfort was and still is Gas .

Each day the swelling goes down and sipping gets better. The goal is 4 oz per hr but day one all I could do was 1 oz per hr but have doubled it every day since till I am almost doing that . Protein is very filling and harder thus slower. My new best friends are my ice packs. Very comforting... Hope everyone else is getting better, I know I would try and log on but fall asleep before I could join in. In fact gotta nap now!:-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
