I was just thinking that maybe heading to Sydney rather then QLD would be an option. Here is a link to my surgeons web site it's worth a call just to see the options any way.

No worries, From memory of my first phone call with them I don't think it was as expensive as the price you said in your earlier post.

I know the private hospital I stayed in was $10,500 for the 3 nights stay (hurstville surgery center)

$1,000 for the anesthetist

But the actual surgeon I'm not sure

I can't speak any higher of my whole experience, surgeon is amazing and the hospital had 4 patients in total with 3 nursing staff to look after us all.

Hi Lila, just checked the WLSA website and said that its $19500 + $1250 (anethetist) does that sound right?? I am reading too much its making me more impatient...lol.... I just want to get this thing started.

Hi Scotty - all up my surgery will cost $17740 all inclusive but the "hidden" costs are the additional accommodation fee's to stay on the Coast for 10 days after surgery as the surgeon doesn't want me to go home too soon. If you budget around the $20 000 though you are probably are covered.

Wow had no idea it cost that much without PHI. I did mean to ask my surgeon but never got around to it.

Well, it's 24 hours since I went into surgery. It has all gone well and the Doc was happy there are no complications. He flushed the sleeve during surgery, so I don't have to have the dreaded X-ray afterwards. All I had to do was drink a couple of glasses of green cordial and as it didn't come out the abdomen drain then all is well. The worst part was the nasal drain directly into the sleeve. It only came out a little while ago. I kept getting nausea and wanting to throw up. Had my shower and now feel a better although still hooked up to fluid drip and abdomen drain for the next day or two. Feel a bit more comfortable. Mild pain n tummy, but not unbearable.on clear fluids for time being.

I didn't have any drains post op. I guess each case is different.

How good does a shower feel?!

Yeah I am full fee paying. My Healy fund didn't cover it as I was on a basic level of cover and I wasn't willing to wait until May next year for the surgery lol

So glad to hear your well, I didn't have any kinds of drains but they sound terrible, I didn't even have to have a leak test after. Time will fly by from here. Wishing you well

Great to hear everything went well with your surgery and you don't have to have the X-ray.

I didn't have an abdomen drain either. The first shower is awesome.

I don't have private hospital insurance do I ended up paying for the my op. my surgeon usually does all his ops in a private hospital but once a month he does an immediate service at the public hospital in Brisbane. I was put on his list to have it there as I don't have to pay full private hospital costs.

The Hospital charged me $320 a night plus food. But Medicare does cover done of the food.

The cost of my surgery was $4500 to surgeon, $1370 for anaethetist, 3 night stay $960. The hospitals prothestics (stapler, staples etc) Plus my surgeons normal appt costs befor hand, 3 visits to dietitian.

All up my surgery has cost me about $10000.

I got about $1100 back from Medicare from the lot.

I also got my money released from my super under medical grounds.

Prices do depend on where you go, also of you have to travel etc.

I was initially on basic but had to change to top and wait out the 12 months.

I paid $2500 for the surgeon and $188 for the anaesthesiologist. Everything else was covered by my PHI or Medicare.

Yeah I'm on basic hospital too with Medibank. Had surgery at a private hospital and my gaps were $2400 surgeon/assistant surgeon and $285 for the anaethetist .

Its crazy how much the prices differ.

Kelliv, glad to hear everything went well. I didn't have a drain but have had one with a previous surgery and they sure are a pain in the butt. Good luck with the rest of your recovery.
