Misty, smart move on the track suit pants...you will probably live in them for the first week. You are definitely organised. The flavourless whey Protein was the only real way I was getting protein in, would add it to everything early one, made a heap of Soups and stuff and they made them all nice and creamy.

Have you got a nice comfy couch you can sleep in if needed?

Yep! The couch is amazing. I also have a lovely covered deck!

I had a mild gall bladder attack tonight I think. I have had the same thing before where it feels like my whole back is spasming. Awful. It made me wonder something too. I had an endoscopy a couple years ago and I was told I have a mild hiatal hernia. So I was wondering if during the surgery they fix the hernia and/or take out the gall bladder, if it would change anything about the surgery and what was covered. Maybe if the sleeve was just one part the out of pocket would be less. Do any of you know? Some people in the US have had luck with that.

My surgeon said he does an endoscopy to check for hernias when he does the sleeve. He said if they find one he removes it. U might want to check with ur doctor

I will check thanks! What about the gall bladder? I think I would rather have it removed than have to have another surgery. What does it do anyway?

Well I am finally on the 'Sleevers' Side' and home again. Apart from an exacerbation of my Chronic Pain Syndrome, which is a separate issue to my post op pain, I am doing ok.

Mistysj, as far as I know, having additional procedures does not reduce the 'out of pocket' expenses for having the sleeve done. I think most Surgeons will repair a Hiatal/Hiatus hernia if they find one either pre op or during the Sleeve operation and it seems that they simply charge the Medicare Rebate amount for that procedure. Removing a Gallbladder is a very different procedure to performing a Sleeve, so most Surgeon's will not do the two procedures together unless there is clinical evidence that the Gallbladder needs to be removed. Again, it seems to be standard practice to charge the Medicare Rebate amount in addition to any other charges that have been quoted. The Surgeons are always mindful of how long a patient is anaesthetised because it does significantly increase the risks of the surgery.

Very sad news today. A good friend Shane passed away in a car accident on the Gold Coast last night. He was only 38 and had a 4 year old daughter. Single vehicle accident near Smith St motorway northbound in peak hour. It appears he went off the road into a tree, but we don't know why as yet. He may have had a heart attack. It sure makes my husband and I think about how precious life is and you have to make the most of every day as you never know if it will be your last. Give your loved ones an extra hug tomorrow anyway.

That's so sad Kelli, You are right, you never know when your time is up so I really try to tell my family constantly that I love them.

I have begun taste-testing Protein Shakes to see what I should order for the first couple weeks post-op. I just tried one from the same place where I got my Vitamins. It is called Garden of Life Raw Protein. It was awful. Chalky and had a weird taste. I could only get about half of it down and had to stop before I threw it back up. Ugh. I suspected this one would not be good so I'm glad I only got a couple of sample packets.
