Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi Bella, you will be fine and just stay positive. Like you have read here, many of us are so happy with the results and had had no complications, except for poor Lila - but that is with any op there are the risks.

My experience was no problems, pain, nausea so it was a very stress free procedure for me and have not had one bad day since, only wishing I had come across the sleeve earlier, not waited until being 39 years of age to have helped me change my life.

I know there has been a few through Dr Taylor as his name is very familiar.

Anyway, you'll be fine and you can rely on this great support system as we all have :)

Off to the beach now with the family and lunch down at the Coast somewhere.

Puppyphat, I can't see any difference either, even though I know I've lost some weight and other people (that know about the surgery) say that they can. I'm down 26kg since the pre-op diet but when I started at 179 it's not such a huge amount. But a good start.

I'm amazed at some of the numbers people have here. If I was 100kg odd I don't think I would have contemplated this surgery. Cracking the 100kg mark is my first big goal and I was telling my bf that I'd be hot by then. Lol.

My major learning experience - Hardest thing so far is drinking enough when trying to be conscious of not drinking when eating, and not being able to just chug a bottle of Water if I feel too dry.

Hi to everyone!!!

We keep growing n members...good to see more Aussies in here.

For the newbies, I am probably the oldest aussie sleever in this thread. Today I hit my 1 year anniversary...I can't believe that it has been a year. All the stages you are all going through I have lived through, no matter how hard it may seem it does get easier.

At one year out life is pretty normal. I can eat a lot more now, and by a lot more I mean an amount that I feel comfortable with, tho most people thnk I. Just play with my food. For example last night I had a soft taco with salsa and guacamole and some chips and salsa..and that was enough. Tho there are the usual slider foods like popcorn, chips and crackers which I can eat way too much of.

I started at a bmi of 53 and am now probably a 29...haven't weighed myself properly in 2 weeks and believe I am now in the 70's...not sure how much lower I will go...just want to feel healthy and fit now...I do have a lot of excess skin, which takes up most my excess weight now.

I am traveling at the moment so it is hard to get in here as mich as I would like.

But I do wish you all well with your journies

Hi Bella im getting done by Dr Taylor as well but not until the 29 Oct at the Mater.

Nessa, a friend of mine that does bodybuilding told me to use Haemeroid cream ( Dont know if that is spelt properly :-) ) as it tightens the skin, told me to just rub it in everyday where im going to get the most excess skin. Dont know how good it'll work but I'll give anything a go lol.

Ah well of to get ready for another night shift joy joy.....

Plus, it's only a temporary measure, and it eventually stops working, and you have to a break from it for a while. at least with crows feet and eye bags. Trust me, this is a beauty treatment I have used for the last 8 or so years! Haha I now leave it for special occasions. ;-)

For those getting sleeved at the Mater, I cannot reccomend it enough. The staff there were amazing and made you feel so comfortable. My friends came to visit me and thought they were at a hotel until they saw the room. I had my own private room, but got moved around a few wards, all which was hassle free. I was the youngest on each of the wards.

Hey all, I have a question for all the post-oppers.

Wondering how you know when you're full? Because I'm not hungry when I start to eat, I'm not sure if I've had enough when I finish. I can handle a half cup of puréed food when my stomach feels sort of weird but it's not a full or hungry feeling.

I've heard people mentioning pain or discomfort when they have one bite too many. I haven't experienced this yet though. I'm really worried that I'm going to miss my cue and end up eating too much and stressing the sleeve!

I'm just managing to get to 50g Protein a day and am always within 500-700 calories. Also, how slowly should I be eating? The half cup I get through over about 20 minutes but maybe 5 minutes after eating a small amount will make its way back up - sorry for the grossness! It's happened twice now but it's not a full blown vomit or anything.

You'll know when you're full. A few times I've gone that one bite too many or ate too quickly. I get like a sharp pain as if something is stuck.

You'll feel uncomfortable if you overdo it. I get hiccups.

What you're doing is fine.

Totally agree with Nessa. You will know when you have had enough. I am always eating too fast and by the time my head catches up, I always feel uncomfortable and say, if only I didn't have the last couple of bites.

I have to slow down.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
