Preparing To Prepare

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to be sleeved in July and can't express how excited I am to begin my new life. I was wondering what all of you did to prepare yourself for surgery. I would like to try and lose some weight before July... any advice? I gave up sodas about 3 weeks ago - I was totally addicted. I am trying to get rid of all the food in my house that I will not need. My motivation to get up and exercise is not anywhere in sight, but I do plan on beginning to walk every day for at least 30 minutes. Diet wise ---- I think it would be a good idea to try and start cutting out carbs (I am as addicted to them as I was soda!). Any other ideas would be great! Thanks everyone - just reading through these forums the last couple of months has helped me more than anything! Just waiting to get on the losers bench.

hey texas,

welcome to this sight. i know you have about 6 weeks to go, buttime will pass quickly.

you are starting off well by knocking off the soda - carbonation & of course sugar aren't good for you.

exercising is not my cup of tea either  you walking 30 minutes is terrific.

maybe 2 weeks pre-surgery - you could start the Protein shakes that stocked full of Protein, which is something you need lots of. Dr. has specific plans and may not want you to do a pre-diet.

you are on the right track - exercising, eating better -you just being so happy & excited to go into sleeveland. Your happiness flows over.

do well these next few weeks - anticipate only good things to happen on your journey with your sleeve and losing weight.

best of luck

kathy

Hi nabird77, I'm also scheduled for July - we'll be sleeve sisters! Great question, that is something I've been wondering- my doc recommended I go high-Protein but doesn't request a liquid pre-op diet. I will be weaning myself off caffeine and doing some exercise but I'm not sure yet how I'll go about upping Protein or generally preparing.

I like your idea about purging the pantry too!

Hi Kathy,

I hope it goes by quickly! Yes, I have to do a 5 day pre-op diet that is Clear liquids only. I am trying to make small changes now so I don't feel so deprived at once. One step at a time! Thanks for your reply!

Yes, it helps me by just not having the "junk" in the house! Carbs are the hardest for me, so I'd like to try and wean myself a bit in the next few weeks before I start the pre-op diet. I guess I will just try and follow a "South Beach-ish" diet starting soon so I can up my Protein and veggies. Good luck sleeve sister! Where are you having it done? I am July 3rd in Tijuana.

Congratulations on your date! I'm starting the third month of my six month supervised diet before I can be approved. I was the most concerned about the no drinking during meals part of post op life. I'm the girl that gets three refills of her tea during a meal! So I started working on that and I'm pretty much not drinking at all during meals except if they're spicy and then it's only a few sips. Something to consider.

I would really recommend cutting out sugars and carbs. You will most likely be put on a low-sugar, liquid diet before surgery. It is AWFUL, I cried & cried during those days. Start trying out Protein shakes soon, though your taste will change after surgery and you might have to just choke them down, you will need to have an idea of which ones you can even tolerate.

Best of luck to you on your journey!!!

I am, too! I know that the drinking thing will be hard for me. Definitely great advice for someone like me! Is it looking like you will be an August/September sleever? Good luck!

Nabird, I hope to to get an August date but it will probably be September. I'm not sure if I have to see the NUT six times or seven to count as six months. I have an appointment Friday so I'm going to get clarification then. Plus she's pregnant so I hope they have someone else lined up to take over!

I'm self -pay :-( (Which is a fortune but I am trying to feel better about it by telling myself I will take it very much more seriously if I have saved every cent!)

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think working on not drinking during meals and chewing heaps are simple but great things to start getting used to. Never would have thought of them myself..

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
