Hi, my name is Cheryl and I'm in Idaho. I was scheduled to be banded on Monday, August 14th. At my appointment yesterday my Dr. told me I hadn't lost enough weight yet (15 lbs.) so it's postponed until Sept. 11th. I was extremely disappointed and discouraged. I felt it was a huge accomplishment to have lost any weight but he did not even acknowledge what I had lost. So I'm continuing my struggle but still looking forward to the band. My starting weight was 356 and I'm down to 341. So I obviously have a long way to go, but I'm excited.

I'm looking forward to the information and communication I know I will find on this site!

I did a clear liquid fast for 2 weeks before my surgery in order to make the surgeons requirements... (I was two pounds less!) I did Isopure for protien and no sugar liquids. You can do it~! Theere is a light at the end of this short tunnel.

Welcome to the board Cheryl. You will find so much information here its incredible. I've been reading every day since I found it! Not ALL day of course - but it has helped me make the time go by faster.

Congrats on the weight you have lost! Did your Dr. give you any specific requirements or just tell you "lose 15 lbs"? I started Atkins once my surgery was scheduled so I had almost a month. Within 3 weeks I lost about 10 lbs - and now with a few days to go I hope to drop another 5. It isn't easy - like everyone says - if it WAS easy for us, we wouldn't be getting the band!! Hang in there. We'll help you through it as much as we can!

Post away!!

Thanks for the replies! To answer a question, my Dr. wants me to lose 30 lbs before he'll do the surgery. I'm on 3 SlimFasts a day and all the veggies I want. I fell off a couple times the first go round but I'm up & running again and I'm determined to make it this time. I'm excited to be able to communicate here. Thanks again!

Hi Cheryl, I'm from Idaho but chose to go out-of-state for my surgery. Experience was utmost to me and the dr's. there just didn't cut it for me. I think their limitations are showing that they turned you down, but there was a guy on here a few mo. ago that they opened up, said his liver was too big, and closed him up....what a bummer. Anyway I wish you luck. I personally would be looking at other options for doctors, but that's just me.

Cheryl, the day I got banded there was a woman that weighed 350 lbs. being banded and she had only lost 7 lbs. on her pre-op diet. We were in the rocovery room together and she had no problems. I've kept in touch with her since. If you could lose a huge amount of weight you wouldn't need the band now would you. If you have insurance think about looking into Dr. Emma Patterson in Portland. She taught these 2 guys to do lap banding, but has done many, many bands and is excellent. She can and will tackle anything. There is a guy named Jack on here that goes to the same clinic and can probably give you an idea of the phone #. It would be worth the peace of mind to make a trip to Portland to have your banding done. I would have used her in a heartbeat if I had not come to Tennessee. Good luck, and please think seriously of the inexperience of some doctors with banding and the fact you could wake up without your band.... Best of luck to you and please feel free to PM me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
