Gained 10 Lbs This Week

Recommended Posts

I was doing so well until last week. Had my surgery 3/9 and got down to 239 from 298 pre op. Last week my husbands kid and grand kids visited. We went out to eat all week. I ate mainly chicken and have learned what getting full feels like. Threw a lot of food away. I was under a lot of stress and not journaling but cant believe a gain of 10 lbs. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I wish I could tell you what happened but something is VERY wrong! I've never heard of anyone with the VSG gaining 10 lbs in one week! You would have had to of eaten almost every waken moment and eaten nothing but fried foods high in carbs! Are you sure your scale hasn't broken??? I would call your surgeon and ask them. I'm assuming maybe it's Water weight and/or the stress you were under but you really should check with your surgeon. Good luck on your journey!

Wow, that stinks!!! I'm wondering if, since you say you ate out a lot, could you have retained fluids? I noticed that when I eat out I either gain temporarily or don't lose. I don't use much salt at home and lots of prepackaged foods or restaurant foods have much more sodium. Also, since you were so busy running around, were you able to get enough Water in? Perhaps you can flush your body in the next day or so getting lots of fluids in. Don't panic though. I cannot imagine the gain being fat! Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of it! Sending good thoughts your way!!!!!

Hi there! Well, to be perfectly honest it's probably a lot more simple than you may think. Eating "out" you're more than likely eating far more sodium than your body needs. Your probably retaining Water like crazy right now. Are you near TOM too? That might be a factor.

Restaurant pump our foods full of so much garbage, and since you're body was used to eating super clean for the last few weeks, it would be no wonder you'd gain as fast as you did.

My suggestion would be to get back to clean eating ASAP. Lower your sodium and sugar intake as much as you can, and flush with as much Water as you can muster. So, Protein first! Water next and get some walking in there if you can as well. Give it a few days before you weigh in, I'm sure it will come right off.

Make sure you have a potty near by! ;) Cheers!!

I will take a scientific tack on this, 10 pounds is equal ti like 35,000 calories. Do you honestly think that you at that many EXTRA calories beyond your base metabolic rate to gain 10 pounds? And that's if every calorie would be translated perfectly into fat, so it may be more like 40,000 calories with some going to waste.

Something else is obviously going on here with Fluid and solid waste retention being at the head of the list.

That's impossible, it's a lot more likely that your scale is broken. Even with Water weight, that's very hard to believe. I've definitely done the whole "week of debauchery" thing before where all I do is booze and eat out with dessert daily and still the most I ever gained was like 2 lbs in 1 week.

What is TOM?

TOM is Time of the Month.. or your period.

Time of the month, Sweets....it makes a lot of us put on and hold on to Water weight before our cycles, and during, sometimes, too. I can easily gain 3 lbs the week before, then my body flushes it all the week I have my period. I agree 100% that there is physically no possible way to gain 10 lbs of FAT in one week after this surgery. I am guessing a moody, picky scale, Water weight, and like rootman said, solid waste retention, maybe, too....or all combined!

I'll bet you'll be on here in a week saying that 10 is gone, plus two more!!

I got on the scale this morning and showed a weight gain of 5 lbs from last week. I have not been overeating, but I have eaten foods high in sodium, have not had enough Water and ran out of my water pills for my BP a few days ago, so I know it's all water weight. I'm picking up my script tomorrow so I've decided to wait until later in the week for my "real" weigh-in. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
