How long after surgery until can you start having caffeine again? I'm seriously struggling to stay awake at work today!

My doc said that I could have caffeine as soon as I wanted to but not more than 2 cups a day. Every surgeon has different rules so I would say call your doc to make sure. Unfortunately, since my surgery I can't stand coffee anymore which is probably a good thing. Good luck!

Mine "suggested" not having any caffeine , not a no in my book! I started coffee again at 2 1/2 weeks, and I only do 2 cups a day. I have had no problems at all.

I began one cup after week 2 and a second cup after week 3. Two 8oz cups in the morning is enough for me.

I never asked, but since I was having a tough time getting in my mins I didn't want to risk dehydration by adding in coffee. I did have some around the 2 month mark and I realized that I can't tolerate it very well anymore. I'm sorry that you are having trouble with your energy. You didn't say how far out you are, but it could still be post-op recovering tiredness. Your b Vitamins could be low. When I was tired the first few weeks after I would drink Powerade zero or propel Water. They have b vitamins and electrolytes in them and I felt much better :)

Just remember, the main concern with coffee is that it is a diuretic and pulls Water from your body. Many people have dehydration issues for the first few weeks post op, so coffee isn't a good idea for at least a month.

I never drank coffee but I did drink a ton of mt dew and 5 hour energy shots. Now I drink the Decaf ones and they work very good. I could never get used to the coffee taste blech.

I'm 2 weeks post op today so being tired has been a bit of an issue for me. I started drinking gatorade in the morning and that's helped but I forgot it this morning and the weather here is so dark and muggy I felt like I needed a nap! But I just had a half cup of coffee and that helped me out a lot! I'm not normally a coffee drinker so just a little bit goes a long way for me! :)

I think my surgeon wants all Decaf for the first 6 months. I must admit, in the last few weeks I've had an iced tea here and there and even a small cup of regular coffee recently. I just try to be careful about extra fluids when I drink anything caffeinated.

I started having caffeine at 2 months out. but technically I wasn't supposed to have it until I can drink 64 oz of Water a day. (which I don't)

Since I don't know how to start a new thread, What about soda? Does anyone out there drink diet soda again? I'm dying for a diet coke!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
