Recommended Posts

Hi I'm a mother of 2 girls my youngest is almost 12 weeks old. I have been overweight all my life. I have tried every diet out there I'm doing wieght watchers for the third time. I jut can't get the weight off. I'm about to turn 34 and I want to live my life the way it should be lived. I had a friend that did the sleeve and she recommends it highly I want results and I like the idea of not having a foreign object in my body other than the staples so here is my story. I would love any feedback on things I should be asking and things maybe you where told or not told. Thanks for the help and insight.

I had VSG on march 19th by Dr. Alvarez in Piedras. He is amazing! I am 44 & have been over weight 25+ years. I wanted a final weight loss solution! I have a grandson due May 30th and I want to see him grow up. I can tell you that I am pleased and overjoyed about my decision. I am trying to stay off the scales, but I am down about 20 lbs already. That includes the 8 I lost doing a 7 day liquid diet prior to surgery. I am excited & loving life!

I don't wake up hungry! The first thing I think of is what Protein do I need? Not "what fast food

Restaurant can I drive through on the way to work?"

I'm with SgBrown...I had my surgery in Mexicalli, MX with the great Dr. Aceves....and Dr. Campoz. I am 42 and too have been overweight my entire life (so my mother always told me)...I have 4 children biologically and 1 who I have raised for a cousin since she was 7 (now 15)...I have 4 grandchildren ages 4 G, 6 B, 10 B, and 1 G....I too wish to see them grow up and I want to play with them not just watch from the side lines....I am not a very good watcher I am a doer...

I was 354 lbs and since Feb 27 have lost 45 lbs and am down to 309 lbs....Amazing, I had ZERO pain with surgery, no complications with anestisia, and was up walking in 20 minutes after recovery back to my room.

I would do this all over again 10 fold. The first 3 weeks are the hardest part....but after that it is all just figuring out what and how to eat right....Shop the outside isles at the grocery not the inside isles....the Protein and fruits and good for you stuff is on the outside isle...the carbs and calories are in the inside isles...the one thing I kinda miss is a Dr. Prepper, but it is full of sugar and not worth blowing up my new $9000 tummy...I take no chances...

I took a month before surgery and changed my diet to a cottage cheese and pineapple, peaches, pears kinda diet to bulk up on protein...My Dr. did not require a liquid diet before hand I had all my last meals with my friends and families prior to surgery as I was having withdrawls of food before surgery "I was never gonna get to eat again." but this is way not the way it is...I eat just fine, just in micro portions and I am full and satisfied after my micro portion.

I was 56 when I had a revision from the lapband to the sleeve last Dec. I wish that I could have done this years ago and enjoyed more of my life. It is like getting a second chance to do all of the things that I was never able or felt like I could do. I say go for it and enjoy your life and your children. I had my surgery in Tijuana with Dr F Garcia as my insurance would not cover the surgery here in the US and it would have cost me over $40,000. I paid for the surgery myself and the band to sleeve was $6,000. If you are just having the sleeve there is would be more around $5,000. Check with your insurance and see if they pay and what the requirements are to qualify.

I am 35 and have 3 children. I decided to have the surgery when I was sitting in an insurance agents office buying life insurance for myself incase I died from being overweight. I realized that I want to be around for my children when they walk down the isle or have their own children. This surgery has helped me so much. My advise to you is, if you want to be there for your children, and be able to run after them, have energy to play with them...and everything else we as mothers imagine.....get the surgery. I only wished I did it sooner :)

Ok how many of you went through insurance and how many we're self pay. I am just starting but I've heard people say it took so long waiting for insurance. Im one of those people that want instant gratification how long did it take your insurance? My bmi is 46.3 but I don't have diabetes or heart condition basically I'm pretty healthy for a fat girl. Will insurance pay. And any recommendations on drs in the Dallas ft worth area? Sorry so many questions

I am 42 and I am with swimmer...I wish I had done it years ago...I too am a healthy fat girl...however my BMI wa 57.1 when I began and am now 5 weeks later at a BMI of 49.9...yes I know not a big jump, but it is huge for me....I was 354 and am now 309...down 2 pant sizes and can even put my own socks on each day with out over exerting myself with huffing and puffing and cramps in legs and back...

My insr. would only pay if there were complications such as diabetes2, and they wanted me to go on a 6 month diet and see a shrink and do a sleep study all out of my own pocket...Well with all of those things I could have paid for the surgery....and I did!

I would do it a million times over again...

I was self pay as my insurance would not pay for the sleeve. I had the band previously so it cost me around $6000 in Tijuana, Mexico with Dr F Garcia. It would have cost me $40,000 here in Iowa. I wish I would have done this years ago and wish I would have never heard the word "Lapband". I had my surgery last year at the age of 56.

my insurance approved me and my surgery is scheduled for wed. my bmi is 39 I don't really have any health issues. the only problem is my insurance only paid 1/2 so it cost me 13000. it probably would have been cheaper to go to mexico but my dr has a good reputation and I want to be close to home

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
