Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I am still here. Sleeved on April 10th and have lost on 22 pounds. Getting frustrated because I know my eating it limited...why no weight loss.

I was sleeved on the 26th and am incredibly lucky to have had no real side effects. I too walked into surgery, Jimmy, which was a bit disconcerting knowing all those people were about to see my innerds! My biggest fear was relinquishing control as I went under but I needn't have worried. They asked me if I was ready, I closed my eyes and told them I was off to Florida. The next minute I was opening my eyes (sort of) and being asked to give my pain level out of 10 - 5/6 and my level of nausea out of 10 - 3/4. My stomach looked as though I was attractively 8 months pregnant for the first week and is only now beginning to go down. I look very odd as my legs have lost weight but my stomach is bigger:) I would liken the wound ache to the emergency c-section I had with my daughter where it's difficult to stand upright as you feel tight. Wouldn't say I had pain, more an ache. Anyway, today I put on makeup for the first time since surgery and I must say its a lot easier when you have cheekbones:)

To give me an idea of what I could eat for the first 2 weeks, aside from shakes, they said I could eat anything that could be taken through a straw (though not to use the straw as it introduces air into the stomach!). i can have cream Soups (I'm having WeightWatchers Tomato Soup as it's quite thin and I fill a ramekin bowl), smooth yogurts (ie no bits of fruit), and Actimel type yogurt drinks. I was also told to take 3 glasses of milk a day, and Water of course. My dietician said that I should become like the fit, healthy, slim people I used to wish I could be, and carry a water bottle with me wherever I go.

Hope all April sleevers are doing well. x

I have posted elsewhere, but as I am an April Sleever, I will update here as well.

Had my sleeve on April 16th, relatively without issue. Ended back up in the hospital on April 27th with a rare complication of gastric surgery - a Portal Vein Thrombosis (blood clot). Stayed at the hospital for a week and returned home 2 days ago.

My abdomen is very, very swollen. Because of the blood clot, Fluid and blood is backed up into my abdomen. I can't even wear clothes that fit me a month before surgery when I was 312 lbs - they are too tight. I gained a substantial amount of fluid weight after this last round in the hospital (24/7 IV Heparin and 20mEq KCl in NS drips will do that to you). I have become exceptionally hypotensive (70/50), so getting up and around to walk is a dangerous proposition at best. I am lucky my husband is here for another week to help me, but when he goes home on the 14th, I don't know what I'll do then.

MD at the hospital says I am free to return to work whenever I feel able, but I can't seem to stay awake more than a couple hours at a shot, terminally tired all the time. I am seriously considering filing for disability, but not sure how that would work. I've always worked my entire adult life and the thought of not working is mentally crushing to me.

I moved to puree/mushies a couple days ago, and it has helped with the fatigue slightly, though I can only consume roughly a tablespoon of food every 3 or 4 hours. I am terrified of getting overfull, but I can't tell when I'm getting close to full either, so I just shut myself off because I don't think I could handle any more nausea/vomiting at this point. I am scared to eat! Never thought in a million years this would be a problem - just a month ago, I was eating 7+ breadsticks plus the entire Tour of Italy at Olive Garden, and still wanting dessert afterwards! Now I am terrified of that one bite that may put me in misery. Ugh, not sure how to move past this.

Glad to hear everyone else is doing so well - keep up the good work.

Can return to work when you feel able? I hope they are also giving you the time off as long as you feel? Sounds like you were one sick cat lady and shouldn't be going back to work until you have quite a bit more strength back. I'm so glad it sounds like you're pulling through this terrible ordeal.

I am currently unemployed, which is what makes this all the more stressful. I quit my job so I could have surgery, with the advisement from my doc that I should be fine for job hunting at 3 weeks. Instead, I feel even more exhausted today than I did my 3rd day post op. My health insurance has lapsed and I'm still waiting for COBRA info from my previous employer. Beyond frustrated. I paid all my bills up through May, but come June 1st...I'm in deep doo-doo.

I had my surgery April 25. I'm healing well. The only problem i'm having is pain in my left rib. Nurse said that was due to them removing the majority of my stomach from that side. Has Anyone else had this problem? If I didn't have This pain, I would say I am 90% healed.

Good luck to all of you!

Katie

yes, surgeons sometimes differ which incision they remove the majority of stomach from, but that is usually where you are left with the most discomfort afterward. Sounds normal to me :)

I'm getting most of the fluids in' date=' but relatively no Protein. Clear Liquids don't have any protein in them.[/quote']

Have you tried the unflavored Unjury? While drinking your clear liquids, try adding a little crystal light and protein! Hope that helps!

Please try and get you some gas x strips. They helped me IMMEDIATELY, PLUS with the walking.

Hi Katie. I was sleeved on the 26th and have the same ache on my left side - like someone's kicked me in the ribs! I've been told that that's where my stomach was removed and you get a bit bashed about, it will get better. Got amazing bruises:). I too would say that other than that I'm well on my way to normal. Glad it's going well for you. Look forward to hearing about your "journey" :). Alison .

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
