Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

To Joni, she said that it was too much loss. I also gained while in the hospital. The day before surgery my weight was 257, 5 days later I was 270. One week after the surgery, my weight was 261, and two weeks after surgery 247. I get all my Protein in, but my stomach be so full that I'm having a hard time getting 64oz fluids in.

I use it on my computer as I hate trying ot type on my little phone. Hope this helps. Also, there is an app for my phone I love called Endomundo. It tracks your exercise and the distance you went, calories burned, and even keeps a history log of it. Hope this helps.

I am 3 weeks out and down 24 lbs. I eat a lot of Soup, cottage cheese, laughing cow babyal cheese, still Protein Drinks and thinly sliced turkey. I am struggling with thirst! I want to guzzle Water and still have to sip.

Some of the thirst might be due to the salt in the food. Cottage cheese is very salty and so is any kind of lunch meat. I did see at the store a brand of cottage cheese that had sea salt instead of regular salt and the sodium level was lower. You might check that out. I read all the labels when I got mine looking for salt content as I knew it was high. Soups is also high in salt unless you are buying the low sodium varieties. I never used to watch salt as my sodium level when it is tested is always low, but I am checking now for exactly this reason... thirst!!! and it being so hard to drink enough to offset the salt in my food. Take care and have a good one.

Another option is www.sparkpeople.com They also have an ap for your phone. This site combines exercise tracking, food tracking and social networking all in one place. They even have a VST support group on their site as well. This is the app that I use and have used for two years now. It also has exercise video's and tons of recipies. It is the most comprehensive site I have ever found. You can find me on there under WillowsKnot as well. You can also keep a journal, calendar, ticker/stats, your own custom page and blogs. There are also a ton of health articles on there. You earn points and then you can "purchase" cyber goodies to send to others on the site to support their efforts. If you have never visited this site you might want to give it a try.

Sleeved on 4/16 - went back to work the next week...everything going pretty good, except I seem to be having some gall bladder issues. That is bringing on quite a bit of pain. Doing walking for exercise... can't wait for the all-clear to get back to doing boot camp. Hope all went right for yours!

I know how you feel about getting back to a favorite class for exercise. I was told at least 6 weeks. Glad to see you are doing so well. Have a wonderful weekend.

So, if we don't count all the fluids from the hospital, you went from 257 to 247 in two weeks. That doesn't seem like a crazy amount to lose. I lost 10 pounds the first week after surgery, then stalled for two weeks! Ugh! But now it's dropping again.

A trick for fluids is to get unflavored Protein Powder and put it in your drink. Unjury is really good in crystal light - can't even tell it's there. And it's not so think so you can drink it more easily. liquid is liquid - you should be able to count protein drinks as liquid.

Good luck and don't let a nutritionist make you feel bad. You're doing great!

Did anyone feel extremely nausea after the surgery? Because I was in a lot of pain and nausea like crazy lol... My nurse kept tellin me to be patient the morphine will kick it soon, but I didn't care I wanted it right now lol...

For some reason the gas pain did a number on me but unlike most of you I didn't feel anything in my shoulder and really didn't need any gas-x at all

I do feel pain though when I breathe heavily or stretch :(... I didn't have a drain or a Catherder i was happy about that lol

I was actually the only one who Walked into the OR without a stretcher... I spoke to all 8 ppl who were assisting in the surgery and it was a great relaxing convo. Dr. Gorecki has to be one of the best damn surgeons I've ever came across... His team definitely ranks amongst the top 5. They always came in to check up on me, cracked jokes, and kept me relaxed throughout my stay at NY METHODIST hospital

Jimmy, you had a good experience, because I didn't see my surgeon after surgery. My sister talked to him and told me what he said but I felt funny because I thought he would have checked on me. But, the upside is I was in icu for 24 hours and the staff were wonderful!

Jimmy - Glad you had a good experience!! Now to heal and move on to new life!

Fanny - Shame on your surgeon. He should have come to check on you personally. I feel there's no excuse for that except if he was called out of town emergently, then send a replacement.

I was sleeved on the 24th and boy do I know about the food confusion. I was put on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. I am so weak and can't even begin to tell you how weak I am. I decided to add yogurt and cottage cheese myself this week because i just can't stomach the Protein Shakes, they make me nauseaou. I ordered the Unjury chickien powder and I can't even stand that. I need to get my Protein from real food.

My heart rate has been going crazy (172 during my walk yesterday) and I even walked a shorter distance than the days before. Going crazy from all of this. No regrets, but extreme frustration.

On the upside, I am down to 291 (twoterville for the first time in at least 12 years).

I wonder if your weakness and heart rate might be dehydration? Are you getting in your fluids?

I'm getting most of the fluids in, but relatively no Protein. Clear liquids don't have any protein in them.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
