Well I purchased the Lactaid chewable pills and chewed one before I had my Protein Drink this morning. What a difference!!! I was able to drink the whole thing in an hour instead of two hours. I am also already getting more Water in as the Protein drink is not "backing up". I also got some Tums and those have helped along with the Gas-x. Wow, the pharmacy must love me at this point!!! On a down note, I was up 3 pounds this morning. I am pretty sure it is water retention as I have really struggled to get enough water down. I am making a huge effort today to get that water in and also get two Protein Shakes in instead of just the one I had been getting down. I'll fee if all this helps.

Jimmy... Way to go. Glad to hear you are doing ok post-op. Finally we are all through. I hope the May sleevers form as tight a group as we all have. I wish them all sucess in their upcoming surgeries.

Hey 7 days post op and head hunger is killing me. Hoping it goes away once I am back at work to much time on my hands lol I am healing really well hardly anymore pain

So what's everyone eating I am totally confused what to be eating and how much I should be eating

I am glad to see that you are doing ok, and wanted to let you know the head hunger will pass. If you can, get out and walk outside. That really helped me. Even if I could only do short walks, I did them frequently and that help to keep me busy while off work and at home. There is a Google program that lets you put in any city/state and you can plot your walking course. It tells you how many miles are in your route. I did one for here at work so I knew I was getting a mile in during my lunch period. I then plotted several around my house so I would know how many miles they were. Love this program!!!

As far as food goes. I was on Clear Liquids the first 4 days then on full liquids for two weeks after that. Monday started week 3 for me and I am now on pureerd foods for weeks 3-8. Then my instructions say weeks 9-12 soft solid foods. Then starting month 4, I am allowed to start solid foods introducing one food at a time to see how they work with my sleeve. My instructions also say that at any stage if I have issue to go back to the previous stage for one to two days, then try advancing again since everyone's swelling goes down differently. Hope this helps.

Sleeved on 4/16 - went back to work the next week...everything going pretty good, except I seem to be having some gall bladder issues. That is bringing on quite a bit of pain. Doing walking for exercise... can't wait for the all-clear to get back to doing boot camp. Hope all went right for yours!

Sleeved 4/24 and I weighed myself for the first time today an I'm down 11 lbs (woot!) I'm cleared to eat puréed but a few days ago I had an egg puréed and was in agony the rest of the day so I'm gonna wait another day or two to do puréed - Protein Shakes, cream Soups, yogurt and ice pops - I'm looking forward to egg salad!

Oh yeah, I want to guzzle the Water too. My daughter used to laugh at me cuz I could down almost half the bottle at one time. Not anymore, baby sip, sip, sip..... Anyway, sleeved 4/23. All in all, doing well. Lost about 17 including preop diet. But need to get moving. Protein and fluids were a breeze at first and now the protein is going down super slow and not tasting the same. Weird that it would take 7 days to change on me. Can't tell if I'm hungry, full, or how much to eat. Still on full liquids and go to pureed at start of week 3. Glad to hear from everyone!

Hello April sleevers! Today marked two weeks postop and I'm down 23 pounds. But, my dietitian disappointed me by saying that was not good news and it sound like I was dehydrated. So I have to try harder at getting my 64oz water/beverage down. I was really feeling good about the weight loss.

She was disappointed? Did she expect more or less weight loss? Have you had a hard time getting fluids in? How much do you think you were averaging? The weight loss sounds great to me! I had gained 7 pounds while in the hospital and dropped that pretty quick. Hang in there!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
