Chinese Take-Out...oh, Yeah!

Recommended Posts

2 months out and my roux n Y wife and I have been doing the Chinese lunch buffet take-out thing. For 6.50 we get a box and a Soup bowl with a cover and fill them up with the soup, veggies, and tasty chunky chicken stuff from the buffet. We can make a lot of meals out of one visit.

When we get it home it is a challenge to just get the small amount we need out at a time. One time of bringing hot and sour soup back up pretty well cured me of over-eating. We get green Beans, broccoli, onions, peppers, mushrooms, carrots, etc. all tasty. I go easy on the fried rice even though it sits well in Da Bouncer, (my sleeve).

The only worry we have about it is the sugar used in some of the meat concoctions like General Tso's. I think it is insignificant, wife thinks it isn't. What do you think?

Any of you other sleevers do something similar?

My personal opinion is that the amount we can eat is so small I never worry about how much sugar is cooked in something, but that's just me. I don't count carbs at all.

I agree, we cant eat much at one sitting so I dont think th sugar will be an issue. We did chinese last week and the hubby had cashew chicken and beef egg foo young and I just picked some meat out of both, a few bites of vegies and a couple small bites of the egg foo young...was fabulous and I didnt eat much.

Isn't it fun to go out to eat and actually have food to bring home? I haven't done the buffet thing (I don't know of any around here). But I have done it at regular restaurants. when I order I just plan on it being for 2 or 3 meals. I learned to order my steak medium rare-eat around the more well done edges. that way it doesn't get dried out when I reheat it at home. But I do miss not having the desire or the room for baked potatoes and rolls!!

As for the sugar-I find that sweeter or really creamy sauces no longer appeal to me at all. I figure as long as I stay away from the Pasta, rice, potatoes when eating out that I don't worry too much about the meat. With Chinese however I do try and stay away from (or just have 1 bite of) the deep fried dishes. i tend to eat too much of them and the frying makes me feel queasy.

I have 2 small granddaughters I can usually share a meal with-but actually for the first time in my adult life, I prefer to eat at home. it just seems so much easier.

I'm not at the point where I can eat things like this yet, but Like the previous posters said, I think the sugar is not an issue due to the small amount that you are eating. Unless you are having hyperglycemic symptoms right after eating, I don't know if you should worry about it.

If you're not counting carbs religiously I would also agree that the sugar is likely not too much of an issue. That said, eating even a small amount of deep-fried, sauced foods may be the start of a path you don't want to go down . . . as your capacity increases you may still have the desire to eat those same foods - and it may have impact on your weight loss.

I try to stick to Soups (I LOVE hot & sour!) and non-fried dishes like chicken & snow peas, or moo goo gai pan, or garlic chicken. I don't do the eggrolls; sometimes I'll get dumplings (potstickers) and just eat the filling. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
